The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement here at Hays. It was great to be treated the same as a permanent employee. Also having my own desk to run was great. Having the responsibility of a client facing role allowed me to learn a lot more skills that I will be able to take away.
I feel like I am a valued member of the team. It helps massively having the training at the beginning of the internship, this allowed me to learn a lot about the role in a short period of time and meant that I was able to contribute to the team from the beginning. Weather it be sourcing candidates or searching the database and finding new contacts that could help the team with their Business development.
The support was great. The managers at hays are always willing to help you learn and develop. There are monthly reviews in which my manager would talk through what I had done in that month and highlight areas in which I needed to improve and give praise in areas which I was doing well in.
I am usually busy on a daily basis. There is always something to do weather it be creating job adverts, searching for candidates and booking meetings, Meeting candidates or clients or doing an e shot. There is always more to be done and areas which you can work on.
At the start I was helping My colleague with her desk as she worked 3 days a week and this allowed me to learn the market quickly. As soon as you start you are urged to go out and meet your clients. This makes you learn your market much faster as you have to sound credible in meetings. Then I was given my own desk to work on along side this in the housing market. This was great as the increased responsibility showed that I was trusted with clients.
I feel that over the year I have developed many new skills. My phone manor has got a lot better over the last 12 months and I feel much more comfortable speaking to people over the phone weather it be clients or candidates. My time management has also got a lot better. Having to deal with submission deadlines has allowed me to understand what things I need to prioritise.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office is great. I quickly got to know my own team and throughout the year I got to know a lot of other people in the office. Everyone was very welcoming and helpful, this allowed me to learn a lot faster and feel comfortable speaking to all of my colleagues.
The placement was very well organized. All the training in the first 12 weeks was very well structured to ensure that you learnt everything that you needed to know. There were regular meetings with the finance team, the temp team and my sector group. These meetings kept everyone aware to what was going on and what they needed to do.
I feel that hays have invested a lot into me over the past year. This has allowed me to develop a lot and learn a lot faster.

A future career at Hays is very appealing. The progression structure here is great and you can see the hard work people put in as a result. There are constantly people being promoted and a lot of people who have been at hays for a very long time. This shows that it must be a great place to work and they are passionate about their employees.
The Culture
I regularly go to the pub after work with various people. There is also a big night at the end of each month when everyone goes down to the pub and there are some free drinks. This gets the whole office together and allows toy to speak to various people that you wouldn't usually speak to in the office.
It is very expensive around London. However you get used to the prices and quickly figure out that you have to budget every month and make some sacrifices.
In Victoria there are some great pubs. I didn't really go out a huge amount around work but other places were easy to get to.
Yes, London is a big place and there is a lot to do.
