The Role
The internship was well structured from day 1 and our orientation week. National conferences and workshops organised by the company were a both a fun and productive way to meet other interns from around the country whilst furthering our development.
The interns were assigned to jobs right away and I was surprised at the efforts and consideration that went into our job allocations. I was placed on a 2 week away job staying in a hotel, which was a great way to experience a substantial part the audit process, have the opportunity to liaise with the client, integrate with the team and in general experience what the job consists of.
Interns are provided with all the support they need and felt welcomed from day 1. Managers and supervisors were patient, encouraging and more than happy to answer any questions no matter how trivial they seemed. Our assigned people-manager dropped in with emails and made sure we knew that they were there if we had any questions/concerns. Being open and collaborative is definitely embedded in the culture at GT - I wasn't afraid to speak to anyone or was made to feel like an 'intern'. People always responded quickly to queries with great detail and consideration.
The team I was assigned to for most of my internship was very accommodating and actively assigned work for me during the duration of the job. During down time, the nation-wide projects assigned to interns such as blog writing, fundraising, and planning for our final presentation managed to keep us all busy.
I was surprised with the amount of responsibility interns were given. I did not have to engage in any work that was for 'practice' - everything I did was directly relevant to the job. At the client site, interns were given the opportunity to speak directly to the client and take the initiative in seeking client time without the need for supervision - we were trusted and treated the same as first year associates with the work we did.
The internship was hugely insightful into the life of a professional, and we expected to maintain high standards of quality and professionalism through the duration. I have learned both soft skills through various workshop training courses, and hard skills such as technical finance knowledge and improved excel/software skills.
The Company
Open plan office with lots of space. People worked hard but it is a very social company - the balance was just right between hard work during working hours and being social during lunch and evenings.
Very well organised and transparent - we were given our jobs from the first week and were informed of any changes. Social events, workshops and conferences as well as accommodation/travel for these were well organised. We were informed at the start about what was expected of us and what was required to have a successful internship, and were given the necessary tools/resources to achieve this.
Nationally, GT sent the interns on a national orientation workshop in week 1 in London, and a 2 day business workshop in the beautiful Bradenham Manor halfway through our internship - these were definitely two highlights of the programme. Interns were treated like 1st year associates and were taken on a variety of away jobs with different clients and different teams which definitely accelerated our development.
Sports and Social Club

Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Appealing - I would highly recommend GT to anybody who wishes for a well structured, insightful internship in the financial services sector. There has been substantial evidence that they genuinely care about retaining their employees and provide support whenever and wherever possible.
The Culture
The interns were included from day 1 and were invited to many types of social gatherings including the office end of year summer party; after work drinks; a nationwide football tournaments; pizza and quiz nights; and department lunches. The interns spent time with each other during training workshops in London and Bradenham.
The office is in a great location but as you would expect the costs of bars/pubs in proximity could be pricey but manageable.
As above working in the centre of the city has its benefits - nightlife was good but not quite as cheap as at university as expected.
Plenty - we were given the opportunity to play in sports leagues such as cricket, netball, and football. Interns also attended post work gatherings and dinners.
