The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed myself during my work at Grant Thornton. I was given an amazing variety of tasks which helped me improve my technical knowledge, knowledge of procedures as well as soft skills. From the very first day at GT I was made feel very welcome with all my colleagues happy to help me and give me something to do. I feel like I have improved overall and with my new experience of the corporate environment I feel very ready for my graduate scheme.
I felt very valued by my colleagues. While for obvious reasons they could not give me some high profile jobs, they would always explain how the piece of work I was doing fits into the bigger projects and what is my role. Thanks to that I felt useful as I knew that what I was doing mattered for the final project. They were also extremely nice and friendly and invited me for each social gathering at the firm and outside it.
I was given lots of guidance. My supervisors would always ensure that I understood the bigger picture beyond what I was doing. Therefore they got me accustomed with legislation, technical writing, client's structure as well as made me understand the purpose of the work we were doing very well.
I was very busy for most of the time. The first week was a little bit quieter as it was the last week of the financial year and my colleagues were very busy but the workload quickly picked up after that. It never got to the point I had to stay late. The pace of increasing the workload was very comfortable - I was getting more work as I was becoming better at what I was doing.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility. I understood where my work fits in the bigger projects and why it is important.
I definitely will use my extended knowledge in my third year of study! I gained knowledge in a wide range of areas, including law, tax, finance and economics. Perhaps even more importantly, my soft skills have improved as well - I have a better idea of how to talk to clients, manage projects, write professional emails and reports etc.
The Company
My team was super fun to be around! There always was everyone up for a lunch or coffee. Lots of joking around and no cut-throat atmosphere at all, even when everyone was stressed. Weekly team lunches and going out together also a plus. Even people from different departments were always happy to help. Grant Thornton is an extremely friendly place.
The internship was extremely well organized. Everything was outlined well and I had regular meetings with my manager to discuss my progress. They have organized training days for us as well as a conference for all interns across the different GT firms and service lines across the UK. Additionally, we went to the firm's training centre in Bradenham which was super fun!
The firm invested a lot in my development, organizing a two day workshop in a beautiful scenery in Bradenham, also a conference. People were always available to explain things to me.

Very appealing - I would love to return to GT next year.
The Culture
Social scene at GT is very well developed, with people always organizing stuff to do after work / doing lunch. I attended leaving drinks, joining drinks, lunches with the team in a pub each Friday, a house warming party, karaoke... Lots of things. GT is very good for the social animals :)
London - I live here so I am used to expensive prices.
London - can't get any better than that.
Lots of different opportunities available: fundraising for entrepreneurs in developing countries, volunteering days, social media stuff and taking over the trainee blog. Also people from other departments often organize learning sessions during lunch etc.
