The Role
I very much enjoyed my internship, I was a valued member of the team and I was given important tasks on a daily basis. I enjoyed how well the team organised events with all the interns and other graduates at Cushman and Wakefield and I thought that we were in general organised well in terms of presentations and events.
I felt valued by my colleagues, throughout the internship at Cushman and Wakefield, I was entrusted with important and sensitive documents, I very much felt like I was on a similar level to the graduate in terms of the calibre of the work I was being given.
My supervisors made sure I was happy all the time, it was difficult for them to do this however, as is the nature of the industry, many of the employees on my team were out and about on viewings etc. They made sure that tasks I completed were done on time and correctly
I was kept fairly busy, although much of the time I could have been doing a large amount of work and this meant I was under pressure, which, although a good thing, meant that there were times when my workload was not so high, but I imagine this is the nature of most internships in this industry
I was given a good amount of responsibility, obviously on the investment team, you aren't expected to be out there doing deals with clients, but in terms of the tasks I was given, they were important and valuable pieces of work so my responsibility was fairly high.
The internship will enable me to apply my knowledge better at university and picture what is going on in the industry, this will not only enhance my learning capabilities in the future but make the work I have already done even more valuable than it was.
The Company
The atmosphere was good in the office, there was a good amount of interaction between the employees and between the interns. Although, as ive mentioned before, the fact that many of the work force spend a lot of time out of the office meant that the atmosphere did very somewhat.
The overall internship was set up in a very organised way, we were told about each one of the tasks that we were going to do over the month fairly early on, so we could plan around them. In terms of using laptops etc. they were handed out to us in a very orderly manner and all our email etc. was set up when we arrived
We had a fantastic presentation briefing from a company expert, who taught us the basics of how to give a good pitch, we were then given the opportunity to use these skills during a presentation, which we were given constructive and useful feedback meaning we were trained very well in the art of presenting.
The future prospects of working for the company in the future are very appealing, they offer a well run, well respected graduate scheme. The application to this is done in three ways, either being offered an internship straight away by the team, or by applying in September, or by applying next year.
The Culture
There was a very good social scene amongst the fellow internships on the scheme. We had a few evenings in the pub organised and paid for which was a great opportunity to network with the interns and staff. What was also good was the company events in the office which were an opportunity to network with the grads.
As the internship was London based, the cost of living and socialising was very expensive, drinks were expensive and food was not cheap either. It helped that we were paid well for the internship which, in a way, subsidised the fact that it is very expensive pretty much doing anything based in London
The nightlife in London is good, although I tried not to experience it too much to avoid spending too much money and avoid being not in good shape for the next working day. The atmosphere of the west end, although very tourist heavy, is an exciting and engaging part of London to work in
Yes there were many opportunities to get involved with activities outside of work. For example we were made aware of sports teams and events which were being run by the company at the time, this was a good opportunity to get involved with even more networking with other members of the team and other members of the company.`
