The Role
Extremely enjoyable year, and hands-on experience doing the same job as full-timers in an fun and lively office environment.
With placement students making up a high percentage of the work force, the company welcomes students and I felt very valued.
There is a great support system that caters for the fact that placement students are such a high percentage of the team
There are very clear 'busy periods' through the year, due to the nature of the industry, however, the quieter periods provide excellent opportunities to explore other areas around the business rather than just the European Customer Service team I was a part of. Always busy in one way or another though!!
We have no option but to have lots of responsibility due to the structure of the company with placement - what makes this such a great placement is the fact we have our own projects, our own clients, our own bookings that are entirely our responsibility.
The skills that I have learnt and developed at Golfbreaks will stay with me for life now. The experience, and people at the company ensure this is the case for all!
The Company
When you first walk into the office, there is a clear buzz that is not just because of the contact centre set up - it is because of the lively atmosphere around the office. Being a contact centre, you have no choice but to talk to everyone also, which really helps with this!
It is so clear that the company has been doing placements for over 20 years, as the whole year is clearly planned and as a placement student you understand the general structure throughout the year
We have had training throughout the year in both product and system training. This has included a 4 day trip to the North of England with the company. For the majority of the year, our training is very much the same as the full time staff, who we do the same job as anyway.

There are definitely options moving forward with the company, both in the department I have worked and around the business. It is a company that it is extremely good fun to work for, and there are development opportunities past a graduate role also. I will definitely keep in contact with many contacts at Golfbreaks, and future employment prospects are something that will definitely be considered.
The Culture
The social scene is one of the main aspects that has made the year so enjoyable. With having such a large student base, as well as a generally young level of staff, there are constant social activities, both organised with the company and not. The company identify this as key to employee motivation and therefore invest accordingly in this.
The cost of living and socialising is high in the area.
Considering the size of the area, the nightlife was very good. Windsor is not the largest town, however there are plenty of pubs, bars and clubs. There are also options to go out in nearby Reading and London. The people that we worked with also made the nights out so much better.
There were lots of opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work, particularly sporting based. Monday and Tuesday nights have various football games arranged throughout the company, as well as organised fun runs and other activities.
