The Role
Working with Assets Services Team means loads of chances to go out for inspections. C&W has a very rich property profile, from expensive Grade A office building to less glamorous 80's terrance houses. Having a look on those buildings and getting a general idea in terms of their day to day management approaches is crucial. This is certainly very beneficial for me as I have just finished my 1st year in undergrad and gaining some experience is necessary.
I was asked to fill in several New Lease sheets and service charge reports. Colleagues were being very supportive and generous about the few mistakes I made.
I tend to ask my buddy or sub-team leader for a 15 minute 'tea break', where I could sort the issues I have encountered on the tasks.
Most of time I was out as the problem was, that as a first year student, my knowledge base could not allow me to do more advanced tasks. Hence, going for inspections including Health&Safety Checks is sort of packed.
Accuracy were required for filling in New Lease form, as well as service charge reports.
The one-month experience is certainly very helpful for property degree student as the majority of stuff seen in workplace has already been taught in lectures. The advantage is this intern bring more practical knowledge into the theories that we received in the uni. Things like 1954 Act is particularly important in lease agreement.
The Company
Phone could not stop ringing as issues in managed properties popping up all the time. But overall very nice vibe in the office.
The intern started up with a induction day and few sessions on hot topics, they are all scheduled in the first week. In the team I was based, there were lots of inspections, so there was never lack of a chance to going out.
Few sessions on Client Relationships and Presentation Skills in the beginning of the intern. Colleagues gave me loads of materials on APC and other certificates approaches.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
After Cushman merged with DTZ, it now directly competing with CBRE and JLL. And the few high-profile property deals including 'the Cheesegrater' and 'Walkie Talkie' that were made certainly proved that Cushman has the ability to retain its position among top real estate consulting firms. It is one of the reasons to attract people to work for them.
The Culture
Drinking events was arranged throughout the whole month. There were also many interaction with the graduates and interns in other companies.
