The Role
The whole experience has been extremely rewarding and I have learnt a lot in terms of my knowledge and person development. I have liked that the role has been diverse and that I got the opportunity to interact with various people around the business. The whole experience will help me a lot in the future and hopefully assist me well in getting a Graduate role.
My team have made me feel as though I am not just an intern, but a full time employee. I was also treated with respect and never made to feel inferior to longer standing members of the team who has much more experience than I did. I was given a recognition award for my achievements and it was great for my hard work to have been recognised.
My manager was extremely helpful throughout the whole experience. Even though she is extremely busy I never felt uncomfortable asking her questions as she was always happy to assist. We always had one to one meetings on a weekly basis which meant I was able to ask her any questions I had or voice any worries.
At the beginning of the internship I didn't find as though I has enough to fill the time. After a discussion with my manager, she gave me more responsibility and I began to become solely responsible for my own markets. The responsibility towards the end of the placement was full on and I felt as though I was impacting the team by the completion of work I was doing.
Towards the end of the placement I had a large amount of responsibility and they even employed somebody full time to replace my role. I felt as though I wasn’t just an intern but as though I was impacting the team as much as the long standing members. I feel as though I learnt a lot from this.
The skills I have developed during being at Travelport will be very valuable in the future. I feel as though I will be more focused going back to university and that when I begin applying for Graduate roles I will now be more employable. My confidence has also increased a lot and I feel as though this will help me in the future
The Company
The atmosphere in the office overall was very positive. I did however find that in my department it was extremely quiet as a lot of people are extremely busy. This was different to how I expected before I joined as I am quite an outgoing and chatty person. I got used to this over time though.
I feel as though the internship programme was set up quite well however there were a few points that could have been improved. HR took this feedback onboard however and I think that the whole programme has significantly improved for the new interns who have just joined for 2017/ 2018.
In terms of personal development, the company held many workshops to do with personal branding, CV Building and social media. These were extremely useful especially as I am now looking at improving my CV and Linked In ready to apply for graduate positions. We also had workshops to learn about other departments within the company which was extremely useful.

Personally, I am not sure I would come back to the company until I had become full qualified. I’m not sure that the support I would get here would be as great as in an accountancy practice. If I did come back to the company I would like to work in a different department related to the role I wish to go into in the future.
The Culture
The social scene with the other interns was really great and we often met up outside of work. The charity work we were doing brought us closer together and enabled us to become friends. I feel as though it was great to have other people alongside me who were going through a similar experience.
The cost in the area that I worked in was rather expensive, as I was close to London. My rent was extremely expensive which meant that I had to cut out spending excess money on things that I perhaps wanted but didn’t need. The social scene wasn’t fantastic but at the same time I was only an hour from London so if I wanted a better social scene I could always take the tube into central London.
The nightlife in the place I worked wasn’t that great. We lived nearby to Brunel University so if we wanted a night out we could go out in Uxbridge, but again this wasn’t very good. For most nights out we tended to travel into Central London. This was rather expensive but a much better night out!
The only opportunities outside work that we were able to get involved with was the Social Club that Travelport held. They organised nights out to the theatre in London and trips to do certain activities. This all came at a cheaper rate than you would normally pay. You are able to join the Social Club when you join Travelport.
