The Role
I really enjoyed my internship at GT. There was lots of variety in work, but half way through our team was split and the work was more targeted towards what I initially applied for. There was lots of work social events throughout my internship which was great fun and great to experience.
I felt that my colleagues valued my work, considering I had limited knowledge and experience of the work I was doing. Sometimes the work was simple and I did not feel challenged, but the task had to be completed and as I was asked to do it I would ensure I gave it my all.
A few weeks before I started my internship I received an email from an associate who was to be my buddy. I emailed her any questions I had before starting with the firm and she was very helpful once I had started as I could go to her for any help that I needed. My people manager was very friendly and I had regular catch up meetings with her to discuss my progress.
I was fairly busy most days, it was sometimes frustrating having to ask managers for work, but they usually had a task for me to do. I was never stressed or too busy, I always asked when a task needed to be completed so that I ensured I managed my time well.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility throughout my internship. There as a great support network at the firm so that any work you complete is checked by a manager and then by a more senior person before it gets sent to a client. This gave me lots of responsibility while not being concerned that if I made a mistake it would not be picked up on.
I recently completed a 2 day residential training course at the internal training centre, Bradenham Manor. It helped me improve my presenting skills and gain more confidence which will help me when I need to give presentations at university. Working at the firm has improved my time management skills which will also help me when at university.
The Company
There was a friendly atmosphere at both the Euston and Finsbury Square offices. At Finsbury Square there is a hotseat policy where your team changes locations every week and you change desks everyday. This meant you are often sitting next to someone new which is a good opportunity to get to know more people in your team and in the office in general.
The internship was very well organised. We had a very informative introduction day with the other tax interns where we learned lots about the firm and its values. We also had a internship conference with all the interns from over the UK which was great as we heard from some key people in the firm, including the CEO. The day to day work was fairly organised but I was mainly left to get along with my work independently.
The experience at the internal training centre, Bradenham Manor, was a great experience. I developed many skills and had a great time, this did make me feel that the firm was investing in me which made me want to put all of my effort into the training program. At the start of my internship I set out goals so that I could track my development easily.

Working from home
Working at the firm would be very enjoyable and so I would like to work here in the future. Everyone is very friendly in my team and over the firm. The firm seems to care about the people working for it which makes it a fun and secure place to work.
The Culture
All of the tax interns were in a group chat so that it was easy to communicate to each other. Most of the interns enjoyed going out to bars after work, which was a good way to get to know your fellow interns. I went on two team nights during my time at the firm which were very fun and a great experience.
The City of London is an expensive area but the intern pay is competitive and so you would be fine going out for drinks now and again. Moorgate station is very near and has good transport links, but travelling in peak times is also expensive, as is living in London.
There is an active nightlife in this area which you can get involved in.
The firm had a national football tournament during my internship which colleagues got involved in. The interns organised many charity events including a Krispy Kreme sale and a fun run. I also attending the Muller Athletics with the firm which was a great experience.
