The Role
I am 5 weeks into my 10 week internship and I have loved every moment. I have been given large responsibilities with communications for Finance Operations however all the set tasks have been manageable and I have been able to understand what and why I am doing the activities.
I feel as though I am an asset to the team as I haven't been told to just watch my colleagues or read emails but instead get involved and assist with their BAU on various tasks.
My managers have set projects for me to achieve, and if I ever need help or assistance they have been more than happy to spend time going through the work with me.
I have never just been sitting around with nothing to do, but I have never been made to feel stressed or worried about the workload. I have been set the right amount.
Lots of responsibility in the creation of reports, communications and data analysis for my team. I felt like there was little double checking, especially with the data analysis, and so if there is anything incorrect that gets noticed then I am slightly worried it would get back to me and I have full responsibility for it. However, it's nice to feel trusted and as an equal member of the team.
I don't think it assisted much of my degree as Finance is unrelated to a science degree, however I would like to go into banking or business and so the internship has proved extremely beneficial in giving me skills, technique, and CV improvements.
The Company
Very friendly and calm. Work-life balance is exceptional and I never thought I would see such flexibility in a working environment. Working from home is seen as a normal thing to do and they don't expect you to be there from early in the morning until late at night.
Very structured. Skills sessions every fortnight and projects arranged by my team weekly. Only potential issue was that both my managers were on holiday during the 2nd and 3rd week of my placement and so I worked on my own. Thankfully they set me up in the first week with projects to continue with and so it wasn't a problem.
Finance Operations interns had skills sessions for an hour every fortnight but I know of no other interns which have had this. Apart from this there has been little official training but if you ask around colleagues are more than happy to teach you things.
Flexi Time
Working from home
Very appealing. Strongly considering applying for their graduate scheme.
The Culture
Not in my location. In Bristol the accommodation they set up is quite isolated. Everyone has their own kitchen/bathroom which sounds good but it means you have few opportunity to meet other interns. No intern socials or meet ups have been arranged by Lloyds except the first day where all ~200 interns from all over the UK came together.
Lloyds paid for all the accommodation. Cost of living/socialising was standard pricing. (Bristol).
Very strong but no one really organised many socials or outings.
One was the Pub Rally but I was away for that night. I haven't heard of any other opportunities.
