The Role
I thought the placement was a good experience to life in a bank, but I was often left with little or no work available to me which could make the days drag (I would often ask for work, but there would be non available)
Whilst the people I worked with were nice, at times it would feel I was more in the way rather than being a member of the team
Whenever I had any issues and would ask for help everything was always explained so that I was able to get on with my job
Most of the time I would have work to do for half the day and be left with nothing to do for the rest of the day
Everything I received seemed more like check-work rather than having my own piece of work to do which I felt could benefit the bank
Whilst I did learn a bit about how banks function and different roles in a bank, the work I received didn't push me and seemed quite basic
The Company
The atmosphere in my office was great - everyone was friendly and willing to help
It often felt like they hadn't thought through having me. They hadn't got me a desk so if the full team was in I'd have to sit elsewhere, and I didn't have work which pushed me nor that filled up my days
There was mandatory online training to do, but other than this there was nothing offered
After this internship, I have definitely decided not to work for Lloyds nor go into banking
The Culture
We were brought together due to the internship challenges which meant we could bond over experiences, and meet up in our free time after work
This was fine as I lived in an area I had previously for university, meaning I had plenty of people around whom I knew
The nightlife was great - there is always something to do in London
There are lots of opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work
