    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I quite enjoyed my internship at lloyds as I it really opened my eyes to how rapidly technology is taking over everyday life and is truly the new focus. I developed new interests yet my passion for mental health was strengthened even more through this placement. I liked that some tasks actively challenged me and developed me to become fast-thinking and sharp. I enjoyed my working environment as it was relaxed. The only downside is that at times I found it slightly boring.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were all quite nice and welcoming and If I wanted to, I could probably just chat to them, however I just felt like we didn't have much in common, but they were always there to lend a helping hand if I needed it.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager has been very supportive and welcoming. I am encouraged to ask questions and to find out more about the bank, as he was so relaxed it made me relaxed enough to ask him multiple questions about the bank or when I needed help. He was also encouraged me to use my holidays , so that I wasn't working too much throughout summer.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I had several tasks to complete but I found that the tasks were not too difficult and so could be completed in an hour or so or depended on me waiting on other people's responses, so I would find myself having quite large gaps of not dong much during the day , particularly in the morning.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a pretty good amount of responsibility completing tasks that seem like it would have an actual impact on the company even after I left, such as being part of the mental health team and delivering initiatives to improve the bank. I like that nothing too important was left in my hand as I think I would have felt quite pressured by that.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • As my degree is psychology focused it did not help me gain any specific skills towards this field, however I did learn general skills that would bee useful for my studies such as better time management and organisation. I also enjoyed learning new skills outside my degree such as a small bit about coding and it has given me new interests that I would like to further explore.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I loved the design and decor of the office, the bright colours and couches were very cool. Also the writing on the wall and the whiteboards everywhere around the office created an atmosphere of creativity and free thinking. The atmosphere of the office tended to be quite relaxed with meetings happening all over the places from couches to the canteen. I enjoyed this calm, cool, creative vibe.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was very well organised, with introductory meetings all throughout the first week to get us settled in. I never felt like I was not informed about the internship, and we were told about our line managers and sectors a few weeks beforehand so we could prepare or get in touch with them. I actually met up with my team before my internship and that made it easier for me to settle in. Overall, i think it was organised extremely well.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company gave us access to their employee training system which focus on personal development so that was good, but the courses on there were quite selective and not too interesting, although there was a good course on banking to help us know more about how the bank operates. A website callled Lynda.com was available to permanent employees but not others and it seemed like a realy cool fun tool to be able to use but unfortunately we could not access it although it would have been nice to have been able to.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I wouldn't mind working for Lloyds for a couple of years but I am not that particularly keen too as of now.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene was pretty good here, with every end of month there being a get together in the canteen for employees to socialise, as well as other activities such as digital espressos where employees talk and then drink and chill after hearing a presentation a new innovative tech presentation. As I lived from home, I didn't meet up that much with interns staying in accommodation.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It was quite expensive to travel to work as it was in central london. A discount on travel would have been nice as £9.50 a day was quite a lot

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I did not really explore the nightlife as I lived at home and commuted

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are a few volunteering and fundraising opportunities, such as extreme walks or group challenges, but no specific group or activity was ever promoted or organised outside of work.
