    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed working with my team- the office environment was really friendly and supportive. As interns we were all treated very well. My fellow interns in my area were really nice, and I learnt a lot from the grads. However, the actual work itself wasn’t’ that satisfying, and was mainly glorified logistics. I much prefer problem solving and thinking creatively.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were all lovely, and I bonded well with most of the people I came in contact with. However my team were incredibly busy, and as such, they didn't really have time to invest in me, and I spent most of the time working for people based in Scotland in a different team altogether. They did do their best to include me in meetings and email threads etc, but didn't really have time to dumb it all down to my level

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Realistically, to a minimal extent. Though very lovely and open and genuinely cared about my wellbeing, they didn't really have time to look after me. Work I sent was reviwed, and 121s often got rescheduled. Graduates in my team were much more supportive at the start, and once I had settled in, I didn't really talk to my line manager that much.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It varied, but overall not very busy at all. I'm used to working to much much stricter deadlines at uni, and during my placement I was never really pushed to complete things on time. Realistically, I could probably do most of my work for the day in 3-4 hours, and just found I worked slower because I wasn't under any time pressure. The people who were giving me tasks were too busy with other things to keep up.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A fair amount. I was allowed to organise a photoshoot with external suppliers, and took my own initiatives and started communicating directly with customers- however, this was quite quickly shut down, with the reason given being that they shouldn't have my email address in case they try and contact me in the future. The 'big' tasks I was given felt insincere because I didn't have permissions to do many of them

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills are completed unrelated to my degree and anything that was, I do at a much higher level as part of my degree anyway. However, the chance to spend all day playing around with Microsoft office was useful for the future as I am underskilled in these, especially in excel. I have been given access to skill port and plan to really improve these important life skills.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Really fantastic- friendly, supportive, flexible, encouraging,

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was okay, but my Line manager was too busy to have an intern really- but this was due to other team members leaving very recently

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I did most of the useful stuff myself by googling excel and outlook techniques

    2/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I don't think I want to work for a bank or a large organisation

    1/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, though it would be nice if the grads took more of a lead on this

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Extortionate. I live in zone 5, and not receiving any subsidies for travel was a real drain on any money I was earning. While those who live outside London were put up in accommodation within walking distance to work, I'm spending nearly a 5th of my weekly wage on travel :(

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • London is fab

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • No, only one was advertised and it was outside of our internship
