The Role
I really enjoyed my time at LBG. I was made to feel part of the team from the first day and we were encouraged to take part in extra curricular events outside of work, for example volunteering days and the charity challenge, to raise money for mental health UK. I felt that the work I was given was of value and importance and not just pointless intern tasks. The team I was placed in and perhaps LBG in general practices agile working so I was allowed to work from home 2 days per week and choose my hours, as long as I did 35 for the week, and obviously all my work and projects met their deadlines.
I felt very valued by my colleagues and line manager and we often went for drinks and social events outside of working hours.
My line manager was very accommodating and was willing and able to answer any questions that I had. He made sure my arrival was as smooth as possible and sorted out all of my admin issues in the first few days. If I was unsure on how to complete any of my projects I was given guidance and assistance and I never felt pressured or out of my depth.
I was given 3 large projects over the 10 weeks as opposed to small jobs, so I was busy enough but not too pressured. I also had to dedicate time to the charity challenge as I was team leader, and also organising volunteering days for the team, as LBG is quite big on this. If I needed work one day I was able to just ask someone on the team if they had anything quick I was able to do for them.
I feel I was given the right amount of responsibility - the tasks I was given to do were important because if the work I produced was good it meant that my ideas would be implemented, and I often got to change the website design and text. I was also trusted to work from home and choose my own hours.
It was a good way of experiencing my first office job and gave me an insight of how a large business like Lloyds is run. It helped me to make an informed decision of what job I would like in the future, and perhaps even what grad jobs I would consider applying for the following year. The training was invaluable as we had to complete professional banker courses so this really gave me a deeper understanding of the world of banking and how it works.
The Company
My team were a very close knit team, and would often chat about things non-work related so it never felt too dull and the days never dragged.
Could have been slightly better organised as my line managers were not fully informed about general procedures on things like pay, graduate job referrals etc. However my team had a few meetings before my arrival in order to discuss what valuable projects I would be able to work on, so they were well prepared in this sense.
- Had to take part in the Helping Britain Prosper charity challenge to raise money for mental health UK where we put on a variety of fundraisers which helped with develop our business and teamwork skills - Had to complete an online professional banker course which gave us in depth training about the banking industry

If you impress on this internship then your manager writes you a referral for the grad job. Lloyds then choose depending on how many vacancies they have on your stream. As the company has already invested 10 weeks in you I assume they are likely to give you the job, given that you achieved a referral. Most of the grad schemes require you to relocate around the UK
The Culture
Lloyds put you in halls of residence with the other interns placed in your location. We would often go out on weekends together and I would also meet with my team for drinks too.
I was placed in Cardiff so it was reasonably cheap when compared to where I live (London).
It was really good - our halls were right in Cardiff Central and the location was perfect.
Yes! I organised a Day to Make a Difference for my team where we volunteered at a children's school for kids with cerebral palsy, and we held many fundraising events for our charity challenge such as cake sales, car washes, and a spin challenge.
