    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It has been a great time but it has had it's highs and lows. Some days where it has been hard but finally got it done and felt great but some days just been small jobs just to fill time between big jobs. Some work can be enjoyable but some tasks get repetitive and difficult for an intern to solve. Overall, a great 10 week internship.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The majority of colleagues have been friendly to me. They invite me to lunches and dinners with the team. Work is appreciated but the work created is totally different style to theirs due to the experience gap of interns which can cause different views of the work produced. Given high importance jobs but can be quite boring ones.

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Managers are friendly and would always help if asked for some. Always checking if I had something to do and gave me helpful feedback on my work to ensure that my work is the best it can be so that it can make a difference to the company. When he is away there is not assigned person to give you work so may be annoying.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days really busy but some others days quite free and didn't have much to do. If it was more spread out and different it would be interesting. Varies a lot depending on what department you join into but most interns are like me. Fridays are the calmest days where there are less people in the office and the atmosphere is a lot calmer so less stressed workload.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • You are free to do whatever you want as long the work is not urgent. You are able to switch around what you are working on. The tasks given were never done before and can have a great impact for the company. Ability to listen in on high importance meetings and meet clients of the bank. Trusted to do work during work hours, flexible working hours made it good if something came up last minute.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Excel skills have greatly improved. Analysis of the data has given me a different perspective of how to interpret what data we have. Mandatory and optional training has showed me how banks work and what they require to function. This shows the bigger picture of the work you do which is rewarding.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Changes from day to day. Fridays the atmosphere is calm and chilled. Mondays can be stressful on some weeks. Allowed to wear own clothes if not going to important meeting with a client. Cake sales and other small events going on during working hours. Overall a nice bunch of people at the office but can sometimes not be chatty due to work requirements.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Depends in what manager you get. Some can be creating work on the day but some others can have a plan on each week of what they want you to do. Overall, had a good time sometimes not much to do but all in all it was well thought through and some interesting projects worked on.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They put a lot of time into other events to supplement the normal internship. Small grad panels to talk about how their programme is and any helpful tips they have on the scheme such as what they look for and what they expect from you for your first internship with them. Able to join grad programme so they want you to join.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    Travel loan

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There is the ability to get a recommendation to the grad scheme if your manager thinks you have done a good job and this lasts for two years where you have rotations of departments in the bank. They seem to pay well and most grads on the scheme are happy with their choice and are enjoying it currently.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Before the internship we had a event where we met all the interns and then put into groups with respect to what office you will be working in. Each group had a socialising task and during the internship you are raising money for a charity so bond quite well. Have organised drinks with other interns which is great.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Housing/rent was paid by the company which was close to where you worked. Travel costs were reimbursed if you were above a limit. Day to day costs can be low but going out can be expensive due to high prices of London. If below the travel limit you will have to pay all travel costs which can be quite a lot of money if taking the underground.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It is London so there is always something to do and is always busy. Nice clubs where you can have a great time and relax.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Lots of emails about party's going on such as a boat party/ masquerade ball. Summer party for the division I was on. Easily able to shadow other divisions and learn a lot from them during it as well. Charity challenge allowed us to do something different on some days which was interesting and rewarding.
