The Role
I really enjoyed my placement as I was able to live in a different city and experience exactly what the working life is all about. This opportunity gave me the chance to get a taster of what I can expect when in a graduate job and will certainly help me when choosing my future career.
I felt very valued by my colleagues as I was given work that will be used by the team in the future and had a sense of real responsibility in the team. My opinions and suggestions were considered as well as everyone else.
I had sufficient support from my line manager with weekly one-to-one meetings. We were able to discuss anything I was doing or answer any questions I had. They also gave me good suggestions on ways I could make the most of my internship.
My availability varied day by day however as I progressed through the internship I did have more work to do due filling in for colleagues who were on holiday. I always had some work to do so I was never bored and managed to get the most out of my internship while also achieving my own aims and the aims for my team.
I was responsible for a lot of the reports that are submitted to senior team and hence it was vital I did not make mistakes and my work was accurate. A lot of responsibility was handed to me during my internship as I also volunteered to be the Finance Lead for the Helping Britain Prosper Challenge which required me to be in-charge of all the money collected for Mental Health UK.
During my internship I have picked up many Excel skills which will be required in most careers. I have also learned a lot about office etiquette, more about how a bank works and about the business itself. This knowledge and experience will help when going to job interviews as I have a realistic understanding of what will be required.
The Company
Generally the atmosphere was very bubbly and friendly which made it a great place to work.
The placement was well organised. We always had contact information for any questions we may have had and these were answered pretty quickly.
The company paid for my travel to both London and Edinburgh so they did invest quite a lot for my development.
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
Future employment opportunities are great with many interns going onto the Lloyds graduate programme.
The Culture
All of my fellow interns were very social and I got along well with them all. We had many social nights out and this did not affect our working life.
Since I was living in the middle of the city centre the cost was pretty normal to what you would expect.
The nightlife was really good as everywhere you go you have a bar and there are many clubs which are only 10 minutes away.
There are a few activities to get involved outside of work with regards to gym and socials and volunteering.
