The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my summer internship with Lloyds Banking Group in London. I have been warmly welcomed by everyone in the bank. For the past 10 weeks I have been working in the Client Strategy team which is part of CB Markets. I have completed a range of tasks which I have enjoyed. These include client reviews, account planning, client feedback and client prioritisation.
I felt very much valued by my colleagues. The managing director of CB Markets, James Garvey, went as far as to send me an email saying thank you for an interview that I completed during my placement. My team have been extremely friendly throughout the course of my internship and for this I'm very grateful.
The management throughout the course of my internship has been exceptional. I have always been encouraged to remain inquisitive and ask questions whenever I didn't understand something. I have also been supported through my daily tasks and workload and have been able to ask for help and support whenever I felt this was required.
I have been kept the perfect level of 'busy' during this internship. I have had a consistent amount of work to be getting on with everyday which has meant I've never felt bored or that I wasn't adding value to the team. However, the workload hasn't been so daunting that I have been worried each day that I wouldn't be able to complete it.
I have been given a good amount of responsibility. I have been tasked with completing the global corporates activity report every week and distributing it to the floor. I have also had to log call reports and help create information packs for financial institution client reviews. This task has included looking at financials and monitoring external subscriptions.
I believe that the skills I have developed will be highly beneficial for my degree, which I will recommence in October 2017. I have learnt a wide range of IT skills that I never would have been able to develop without undertaking this summer internship. I have also improved my time management skills. Finally, the communication skills I've developed will undeniably be applicable to general life.
The Company
I would say the general atmosphere is one of hard work but also enjoyment. It is accepted that people have to work very hard to flourish in this environment but there is also room for fun and friendship. Lots of the workers are friends outside of the office, and I have had the privilege of attending a team social. The fact these are run shows how well bonded the office is.
I believe that the internship has been very well organised. Upon arrival on my first day I was met by the team and we went through my balance scorecard. It was clear that a lot of time had been spent looking for tasks that I would be able to complete and enjoy. I also received a desk timetable for the duration of the whole internship, showing the level of planning that had gone into the process.
I believe that the company has invested heavily in me. I have undertaken a range of activities on discover learning that have improved my overall understanding of the bank. I have also been taught how to do a number of different functions on Microsoft excel which I didn't now. Finally, by giving a presentation on my team, I have been forced to use resources and broaden my knowledge.
Sports and Social Club
The opportunities within Lloyds are fantastic. I am very much looking forward to hopefully joining the graduate scheme after my internship and after I have finished my degree. This scheme would give me the opportunity to experience relationship management, products and risk. These placements would in turn lead to a high level of personal development.
The Culture
There was, but I returned home most weekends so didn't really experience this.
The cost was very high given that it was London, however this was to be expected. The quality of goods was also very high which made up for the costs. Moreover, as part of the Lloyds Scholars Scheme, our accommodation was free. This was in Dinwiddy House which was very close to Kings Cross and was therefore a fantastic benefit.
I didn't choose to experience this.
Not particularly.
