The Role
Thouroughly. I enjoyed the structure of experiencing 2 teams during the 10 weeks. I got involved with plenty of work from the go, for which I could of not asked for more. The content of work was varied and challenging. Very rarely I was made to do the classic intern jobs (grabbing coffee etc) and was actaully involved with high profile work within a multitude of sectors.
Very much so, however I feel like on occasion there was some unfair expectation on our capabilities, down to the lack of experience and knowledge of the teams solely. My contributions were appreciated, however on occasion I was made to feel belittled. Generally though, I wasnt made to feel like a classic intern and more like a colleague.
Very much so by both my placement managers. They were the first port of call for allocation of work and feedback. Additionally, both Luke and Naveen were great at introducing me to other members of the team which allowed me to have further support and guidance from other members. This also opened up more opportunities to get involved with work.
Varied greatly, some days I would be at 7am and not leave until after 8pm. It varied greatly on the content of work for that day in the team, and how much of the work the team could delegate to me. Occasionally, I felt it was a little too much, but actually the team were always great at helping out if I didnt understand something.
Again varied greatly as per the question above. In my first team I was even allowed to attend an investor lunch, which for a intern felt like a big deal. Addtionally, I was contributing work that was to be presented to clients, which were to result in extremely large dealss for the bank. Overall, the responsibilty sometimes felt a bit much to be honest, but in turn I guess its a compliment if they trust you!
Work ethic haas improved greatly, as well as having a well constructed day. Excel and Bloomberg skills have improved beyond belief, and also my knowledge on capital markets is incomparable to what it was like before. I am hoping that the skills will help in my dissertation due later this year. Most importantly though is my powerpoint skills, and the detail required going into a top class presentation.
The Company
Everyone was commited to getting the work done to the best of their ability. However, there is a great balance of social life, hard work and personability across the floor, which I dont think you'd get at many other banks. Most people were willing to help if you were stuck, or at least point you to someone who could. It felt, most of the time, like a very friendly atmosphere.
Great, as mentioned the rotation was a highlight. However, the one flaw was confusion around the holiday entitlement and whether it was compulsory to take it. I for one do not want to take my holiday, and I am still unsure whether I will be forced to take it or not. Everyone is getting mixed messages, and there are a lot of rumours circulating.
Lloyds provided a number of presentation to enhance our high level knowledge of the bank. The lloyds scholars programme, the route I got the internship through, has supported me the whole way through university, and therefore I hold Lloyds bank in high regard in terms of support and investment.
Very, the grad programme sounds like an ideal set up and will keep prospects open.
The Culture
The accomodation provided by lloyyds ensured everyone was socialable and had a easy platform to make friends. Many times my colleagues in my team asked me to attend drinks which made me feel more valued.
Costs were nill as mentioned above. Eating/drinking was expensive, as expected in London.
Loads of pubs and clubs within london, so really spoilt for choice.
A few, such as volunteering opportunities, but not many.
