    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoy my internship as this is a first time when I am placed in a real working environment. I mostly develop my communication and analytical skills I did not have before. I have an opportunity to work and comprehend huge amounts of data what truly appeals to me.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • On my first weeks, I was not really part of a team. I felt like a stranger who is totally without experience. However, now after 5 weeks of internship the team members hear my voice as well. We have at least 3 conferences per week and sometimes I express my opinion which I feel is valued.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • From my first day I was fully supported by my line manager. He is working near me and it is quite convenient place to have a quick chat or discussion for us together. Regarding other people in management, they are always happy to help ant give guidance where relevant or I do not understand something.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Actually, first and second weeks were the busiest. Afterwards I feel less and less busy. Probably it is because I got used to the internship and working pace. I do not have a particular project to do on a daily basis, unfortunately, so my workload depends on my line manager’s incentives.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Well, it was not great amount of it. Actually I did ‘side jobs’, i.e. additional and not the most urgent workload.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • To my mind, all these skills and experiences will inevitably help me to prosper in the future. I learnt how to communicate effectively, talk with senior people, discuss, show clear points to others, also I got a greater sense of professionalism. I believe these are the qualities of good specialist.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I work in a huge building with many employees. My department has an open space area where are plenty of desks. Therefore, everyone is friendly and supportive, able to help and chat with you at any time. Also, it is very popular to use the headphones and talk with colleagues who are working from home, so there is no silence in the office.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It is well organised, but everything depends on the line manager you get.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • It is basically up to me how much I want to take from internship. There was a mandatory training at the beginning which you could do in several days’ time. After that as I was working with Excel, I took some additional courses via company’s ‘Discover Learning’ website. The line manager allowed me to spend as much time on training as I want.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised/Company Gym

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • They are very appealing as the Lloyds Banking Group is huge overall. It has around 75,000 employees who are across many departments and divisions. It varies from Digital to Finance, from Branch Manager position to Commercial Director. In this case you can shadow many people, explore the industry and get the best suitable place.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, definitely as we need to complete a charity challenge. It is our aim in addition to the internship. We raise money for the Mental Health UK organisation and spread awareness about people mental illness. Team work and collaboration help us to work efficiently, make new friends and spend even our free time together.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I study in Southampton, but during my internship I was based in Bristol. It is very lively, slightly crowded and appealing city which I really like. There are plenty of places where you can find interesting activities to do, there are many festivals during weekends (Balloon Fiesta, Harbour Festival, etc.), the city has many landmarks such as Suspension Bridge. At night, you can find many open pubs, restaurants and cafes. The cost of living I would say is similar to other cities in the South as Bristol has the same grocery stores (Tesco, Sainsbury’s, etc.) and fast food chains. I cannot say anything about the cost of accommodation as it was given for free.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Answer can be applied from the one above.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Not really. There was a pub rally among colleagues, but no big events with company outside working hours.
