Trading Assistant Review

I really enjoyed my year with TUI. It is a really sociable company, with lots of responsibility given to us as placement students. The opportunities for personal development are great, and there are some great perks to the job. Plus, who wouldn't love to say that there job is selling holidays

As placement students, you are given as much responsibility as any other member of staff, and you really feel like. You don't feel any different and everybody is so welcoming and there is never a moment where you don't feel valued by others

In terms of the job role, I couldn't have asked to receive any more advice than I did. Outside of this, there is a 1-2-1 system, and a buddy scheme which are really helpful, so there is never a time when there isn't someone you can talk to

As with any industry, there are busier and quieter periods. The busiest periods were my favourite as there are so many different things going on and it is non-stop. The quieter periods, especially at the start and you are getting used to the role, are a bit slow but there really is always something to look at in this role

One of the schemes massive positive points. You have the exact same responsibility as anybody else in your team, and without you, the team would not be able to function. That says it all for me, and I don't think there are many placement schemes that offer this

I developed some really good skills for the remainder of my degree, such as prioritising and realising the value I place on certain things in my life (having weekends free) which means my weekday work ethic going back to uni will be much better. Beyond this, my knowledge of the professional world has really developed and I have a much clearer idea of what I would like to do following my degree

The office itself has a great atmosphere. The walls are covered with holiday themes and the whole office has a real buzz. When work needs to be done, it gets done, but the team you work with make this so much more enjoyable and have a great laugh together

The initial training is very well organised and we were given help beforehand with moving to the area and a relocation loan which is really helpful. There are monthly meetings through the year to catch up and discuss various topics which is useful. Overall it is a well organised scheme, but I do think more can be done to make this betetr

There are loads of opportunities for development. In the training, you find out everything you need to about the role which is really useful. Through the scheme and the company, there are loads of opportunities to learn about other areas of the business that help development, and learning weeks occur across the business which really helps with any personal development you may want

The potential to come back to the company is really appealing. One big benefit is that even if you decide the role you were in for the year is not for you, you can make really good contacts around the company if there is something that you feel suits better

There is a really good social scene here, something is always going on and there are numerous parties held throughout the year across your own team, the department and the company which are great to get involved in

Depends where you go. Living in Luton is generally quite cheap and socialising is also cheap, but we tend to go into London which is a lot nicer and loads of different options, even if they are a bit more expensive.

Similar to the socialising, Luton is not great but this location is really close to London on a direct train, so most of our social events are here. Naturally, there are loads of possibilities of things to do in London, and the nightlife is great

There are lots of opportunities. I played in the company football team, and there is also a netball team. People do stuff as mates a lot (go to the cinema, out for drinks etc) a lot, and as a holiday company, there are great opportunities to go away with colleagues for great deals
