The Role
I have enjoyed my placement; it was very interesting learning about the intricacies of pensions and how the company functioned. It was good to continuously learn about different investment funds and strategies. The company has a good culture.
The company has a very supportive culture. All colleagues took the time to introduce themselves and offer advice when needed. They gave a wide range of work and seemed very interested in developing careers.
We were given weekly meetings with our 'People Manager' to see how we were getting on. Both the 'people' and 'team managers' were constantly looking at given you support. We were also allocated a 'buddy' who was a recent graduate who would be there to help when needed. All staff would give guidance if asked.
We were given our own personal project to complete over the 8 week internship which although started off slow and relatively unorganised, intensified towards the end. The amount, range and difficulty of client work picked up throughout the internship. By the 3rd week I was know longer asking for work and having it given to me.
We were given a lot of responsibility with our own personal project which we had to present to the management team at the end of the internship. The range of work given had different deadlines and therefore we had to juggle the timetable of our days.
I feel this internship greatly enhanced my skill set, understanding the different types of assets and when/why certain investments were made. Being surrounded by so many intelligent investment minds rubbed off on me, and I was able to understand the effects of the economy in much greater detail. We received a lot of the standard induction training in the first week or two and the personal project led us to develop important business skills.
The Company
The atmosphere of the office was very laid back. Everyone was approachable.
This was apparently the only 2nd year of summer placements for the investment team so there is definitely room for improvement. However, I felt supported and worked on a variety of work during my time there.
There are constant personal training sessions and you get the chance to be involved with fund manager, trustee and client meetings. These opportunities were very useful to be involved in. Graduates get a study day per week to revise for their upcoming exams.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
I would definitely consider the offer should I receive one. The company has a lot of useful connections and support your career aspirations.
The Culture
Yes, the company played football every week, social 'drinks' were very common and there were other events such as sports days and others.
As the internship was in London, the cost of living and socialising is expensive as expected. Commuting is also expensive but doable.
Nightlife was very good, the London office is right in the centre of the City of London.
Yes there was opportunities to get involved such as socials, sporting events, fundraising and other fun events such as tourist attraction visits.
