The Role
Absolutely loved it! the people were great to work with and very supportive. I started off with basic tasks and gradually progressed. I really connected well with my colleagues and found it to be an excellent opportunity to get to know the world of work and be able to plan out my future career path more clearly.
Treated just like any other member of the team, given my share of work and responsibility almost straight away. I was given tasks similar to any other new employee, not to mention that all of the tasks were relevant to the work at hand, and menial tasks weren't given to me at all such as photocopying etc
Managers and co workers were always around me and helped me out whenever I asked them to. They would even be willing to stop doing there own work in order to explain the tasks at hand to me and I was given constant support during the day, and was also approached for help at times even when I myself didn't ask for it.
Fluctuates depending on the day, but overall its a very relaxed working atmosphere. Once I mastered the basic tasks, the workload would become larger as I was now able to complete greater sections of the piece of work at hand, thus keeping me busy for the whole day, although in a general sense the workload was very easy to manage.
Responsibility is built up over the six weeks, starting from the basics until you've mastered some tasks. After mastering the tasks, you are given greater responsibility as your manager now considers you to be capable at completing certain tasks with little outside help, thus making you feel more responsible and capable.
They will stay with me for life. Having actual experience of the working environment is crucial, and the same experience cannot be obtained elsewhere. During my final year at university I will be able to transfer these skills to classroom and especially to any group projects. Furthermore, these skills have allowed me to plan a clearer future.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office was great. Help was always available at hand and the workers were aware of us new interns and willing to guide us whenever we needed any assistance. Moreover, various sectors were on the same floor and the hot desk system in place made it easy to interact with workers from other sectors of the firm.
It was organised very nicely. From the very first day during induction week we were told how the layout of the internship was going to be and social activities along with our work tasks were coordinated very well and organised nicely by Grant Thornton. After being given a guide during induction week, the whole layout was crystal clear.
The company invested heavily in me. After induction week, we were also sent out to stay in our training center, where our accommodation and food was paid for. Furthermore, during my time at client sites we went out on group bonding activities, being sent to a panic room, also paid by the firm.

Grant Thornton appealed to me as being the ideal place where a newly graduated university student would love to work, as the world of audit in general seems to be the place where a worker can start there future career path and open up countless doors to various different opportunities.
The Culture
Us interns and placements students got along perfectly. From the onset we bonded nicely and made a whats app group not long after. We went out to eat as a group on more than one occasion. and bonded even more during out stay at the company training center in Bradenham, High Wycombe.
The cost of living and socializing was standard London prices, albeit slightly higher due to us being in close proximity to central London.
Due to commuting distances and constant trips to client sites, getting home as early as possible was the mission!
I never came across many although I heard there were activities for permanent workers.
