The Role
With such a large intern community (around 60 I think), it felt like freshers year all over again but with some income! Very much a work hard, play hard ethos.
From PA's to managers alike, everybody valued your input and you felt like an employee everyday.
Fantastic support by my manager, always helped for personal development and was willing to put aside time to see how I could improve.
Given that my main focus was on events and budgets, it peaked and troughed each quarter - however there was always work to find, where that was improving processes or finding areas that needed help.
Responsibility was balanced well: never overbearing if you put the effort and time in. I felt that trust was earnt and that my manager gave full responsibility towards the last 6 months as he saw my performance justified it.
Valuable experience for such a big global name, this will no doubt bolster my CV and help shape my career choice in Marketing going forward.
The Company
Even with immense pressure, there was always a good productive atmosphere and cracking a joke or two across the day wasn't seen as an alien concept.
Fantastically well organised
Many on-line courses to choose from - an absolute plethora of resources to further my own learning of HP, the markets I was working in and strategic issues further up in management.
Sports and Social Club
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
Although the graduate opportunities don't line up with my placement role, I am tempted to apply back.
The Culture
Plenty on offer, the intern committee putting on plenty of charity events and events across the year. Again, having so many interns at HP meant these were big nights and very good!
I commuted from home - M4 was by and large clear, as I opposed the traffic going into London.
Incredible nights in Reading. Expensive, but that's a given for this area.
HP made a concerted effort in terms of days out helping the community and events for employees, even during pressurizing times.
