    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My 10 week placement at Lloyds Banking Group was very enjoyable and insightful as I had many opportunities to learn more about the group as a whole as well as the team I was interning in. I think during the first few weeks, the placement can feel very slow and you feel very disengaged with the team you are working with however, after a few weeks you feel more involved and the placement picks up speed which makes it more enjoyable.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone on my team was extremely friendly and helpful and I always felt like a valuable member to the team. Colleagues are keen to involve you in their work and provide you with any guidance or insight as well as involve you in social events going on within the group. I felt that colleagues felt comfortable in involving me in their work however, you often need to ask otherwise it could be very easy to be forgotten.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The group has been excellent in providing support by management as well as the group as a whole. Support and guidance was always provided from my manager, members of my team, other graduates/interns and the Emerging Talent Team with quick and helpful responses. I had weekly 1 2 1 meetings with my line manager and also had regular contact from the Emerging Talent Team. Overall, I think support and guidance was always available if needed from all areas of the business and colleagues are always happy to help.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This often varied day to day however overall, my workload did not feel very heavy. This may vary across the group however judging from my experience, interns were not given much work. I think due to the nature of work within my team, it was difficult to find tasks to complete however colleagues do try and find you things to do if you ask. Overall, I think the structure of the programme is at fault for this - it would be better if there was more structure in terms of work that is set to the interns.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I believe I was given a good amount of responsibility during my placement. My responsibilities varied from being team leader of my charity team to leading team meetings. The first few weeks can be slow in terms of responsibility as you are still getting into the swing of things however with time. colleagues are happy to let you aid them with big projects and deliver presentations and campaigns. I think it would be more useful for both the interns and the teams they are in if interns were given more responsibility when they are starting to help build their confidence and keep them engaged!

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think the internship really did help me develop many skills which would be applicable in the real world beyond my studies. I think the placement really helps you understand the industry as a whole and what professionals look for in candidates. Also, the placement does help you develop skills such as time management and organisational skills which will really assist you in your studies. Overall, I think in terms of the development of skills, the placement does help you gain skills which will definitely assist you in many aspects of your life beyond your studies.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere in the office is very relaxed and social able. The radio is often playing so you are almost never sitting in silence which is good! The environment is definitely balanced as I was comfortable and open enough to speak to others at their desks as well as be able to concentrate at my desk when needed.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was not very well set up as there wasn't much structure or planning prior to starting the internship. This was on of the only weaknesses of the internship as there was not a structured plan of how the internship would run and what work you were set which often let you with not much to do. However, there Emerging Talent team did organise a charity challenge for the interns which was well organised and helped keep interns engaged.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company definitely invested in my personal development in many ways. Examples of how they did so are ensuring we completed mandatory training, having weekly 1 2 1 catch up with line managers, allowing us to shadow other areas of the business and helping us set achievable and ambitious goals. Colleagues are happy to help you and give you guidance to help you develop your skills.
