The Role
The internship was a great opportunity to get a feel of the industry. There were a few other interns in Actuarial as well, which definitely created a nice network. The Actuarial internship is completely separate to the main LBG one, which meant a completely different selection process; salary and structure so we didn't interact much with interns from other departments.
Very much so. I was always included in whatever was going on and my colleagues always took the time to explain key words they thought I wouldn't know. No one treated you as just an intern.
Everyone was very friendly and always more than willing to help if you got stuck. We were assigned buddies and our line managers had regular 1 to 1s with us about feedback and any requests.
Very busy. There were a variety of different tasks to ensure you always had something to do.
At the start, not much. However my proactive approach was quickly noticed and the work I had done was correct, so I was given more responsibility.
Quite a lot. Doing a maths degree meant a lot of statistics and financial maths modules, so the theory I learned on the internship definitely helped with my university exams. However the interns who did an actuarial degree were definitely more experienced.
The Company
Great, there was always something to do or someone friendly to chat to. The department is very friendly and fun, with lots of different personalities.
The structure could have been a bit better but that was probably because there was a staggered influx of interns.
A lot. There were many educational sessions for the interns as well as regular opportunities to give and get feedback from your manager. If there was any particular aspect you wanted to learn about, the department would make sure they set it up.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
The grad scheme has a great pay and a good structure so I would definitely take it if offered.
The Culture
Yes, there were regular social events set up such as sports tournaments; bake offs; regular bar night outs etc. Interns would always have lunch together which was nice.
Quite expensive but the office is right in the centre so it's to be expected.
Great, we were just next to Georges Street which is off course the best location for nightlife.
Yes, there were regular Away Days and Charity days, as well as many conferences that we were invited to.
