The Role
A very rewarding experience which allowed me to have a good overview of how technical processes work within Banking IT. It gave great opportunities to travel across the UK and see how different sites operate, as well as how different teams work together. Felt very welcome every day by my colleagues and the support provided by them is very overwhelming. This internship has provided a great learning platform which allowed me to identify my strengths, and more importantly allowed me to work on certain aspects where there was room for improvement.
The colleagues were very supportive and coached you along the way. They all fully understand that this is probably the first time we've all been exposed to such an environment and therefore they always make themselves available to you when you need assistance. Furthermore, never once have I ever felt like I was being spoken down to. They're all very respectful and treat you like a colleague, rather than a "rookie" which I found very welcoming.
Upon starting my internship on Day 1, I had everything set up for me. Laptop and various accesses which were necessary for me before I could start any sort of work. So the preparation before joining was fantastic, and this was all done by my line manager. Along the way, I've never felt neglected or abandoned in any way, shape or form. Every single day my line manager kept a close eye on how I'm doing and any issues I may be facing. There was a lot of transparency between us which made the job a lot more pleasant and enjoyable.
Everyday I had tasks to be getting on with to keep me busy. If my line manager didn't have any tasks for me to complete, then your fellow colleagues would ask for assistance on their projects which they are working on, and in the rare event that doesn't happen, then there are plenty of opportunities for you to create work for yourself. So there's never been a day where I was waiting for the clock to hit 5pm so I could leave. It was more of a.. "Oh [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] it's 5:15 I gotta go!"
Your line manager and your colleagues have a lot of trust and faith in you, therefore they do not hesitate to hand over pieces of work which come with a lot of responsibility. When working on technical tasks, things can easily go wrong, however you're trusted to work on it and they expect you to raise any issues should you come across any. So the work you're doing isn't "kid's work", it's real work which is going to be used in the real word, therefore you definitely have a certain degree of responsibility within the team.
I've picked up on a lot of skills which can be transferred to my final year of studies in the upcoming year. Time management, prioritising tasks, and knowing that diligence is the key to a good outcome, rather than intelligence. These are a few of many skills I've listed which will definitely help me with my degree.
The Company
It was a fairly chilled atmosphere, yet still enjoyable. You were assigned your own desk and everyone mingles with their colleagues sitting around them during the day, so it's a bit like a common room in sixth form, but actually getting some work done. It wasn't a silent library, or like a call centre. You'll be surprised how sociable the environment is
Very well organised I would say. You were given a lot of support from the second you submit your application at the beginning. The Emerging Talent Team are extremely...extremely friendly and they will sort out any concerns you have. There's plenty of information on their website which is obviously beneficial, and they set you up with a Graduate Buddy who you can bombard with questions. The internship itself was really well structured, with objectives set out for each week so you knew exactly what you should be aiming for.
They hosted many sessions for interns to take part in for personal skills development. They hosted mini challenges which forced you to collaborate and work with other interns and colleagues. Furthermore, there's plenty of online learning available which is very beneficial. Such as the mandatory training, professional banking training which gives you a general overview about the industry etc etc

Very appealing. After being exposed to the business culture, it's very pleasant and something I'd love to do again in the future. The graduate scheme offers a lot of opportunities which obviously will be beneficial in terms of career progression, and personal development.
The Culture
Yep, many opportunities within your building and beyond for social activities, cool charity events and social events organised by colleagues for everybody to take part in. There's many opportunities for you to get out and meet other colleagues via HIVE (LBG version of studentroom) which brings you together with people who share the same interest as you.
Cost was slightly higher than other cities, due to being in London which is expected. However the pay is slightly more higher to compensate for this for London interns, so it makes up for it. Socialising in the area was fantastic, I'm based near London Bridge therefore we were spoilt for choice when it came to socialising.
Again, it's near London Bridge so self-explanatory. Very busy and many options for you to chose from. Comes in handy when planning social/charity events since everything is very close-by therefore attendance to these events are quite high. This allows you to fund-raise a lot of money, and get the opportunity to network with a larger audience which is beneficial, and fun.
Plenty of opportunities on their intranet which advertised volunteering/charity work outside of work which is nice and allows you to get involved in activities outside of work. Even social events which act like university societies within LBG are present and they organise cool stuff which you can get involved in, and caters for everyone's interests. If there isn't a group available, then you can make one!
