The Role
This was a great experience. I did a 6 week internship in Performance Improvement Consulting at EY. I really enjoyed the time and the opportunity to network with people from around the firm, and also the type of work I was given. I was responsible for three key deliverables and enjoyed the level of responsibility that I was given.
I felt very valued by my colleagues. Everyone was polite and helpful and at the end of the internship I did a presentation on new business opportunities for the client and EY. This was a really insightful experience for all my colleagues and greatly valued the work I had done. So much so that they wanted to present it to the wider team in the regional offices.
My supervisor was great and supported me throughout my internship. He went above and beyond to ensure that myself and the other intern were meeting all of our main targets for the internship. He went to the trouble of organising a Partner Shadowing day with the partner on our project, instead of leaving us to do this ourselves.
This varied but I always had work to do every day. Towards the last three weeks of the internship my workload increased and I often stayed at work later than 5. But this was more than manageable and I never felt too stressed by this. I had a good amount of work to do and enjoyed the pressure to meet deadlines on time.
I was responsible for three key deliverables, and while my manager rehearsed my presentation with me and gave me a lot of support and guidance based on this. I felt like I had a good level of responsibility and I was in charge of my workload and meeting deadlines on time.
My presentation and report writing skills were enhanced which will definitely benefit my university career. I also felt that my commercial awareness and economics knowledge also improved through attending account meetings and learning more about EY’s clients. I also developed my Microsoft Excel skills and learnt how to make an interactive PDF.
The Company
Quite relaxed, everyone works hard but no one is running around very stressed or unsure of what they are doing. The atmosphere was not too corporate but quite relaxing and enjoyable to work in. There were many break-out areas on all the floors which were nice to do group work in and allowed us to be creative and interactive
Well organized. There was an induction day at the beginning for all the London interns and at the end of the internship there was an activity day to conclude the internship. In terms on projects, most people were emailed before to inform them of what project they would be on. This was very well organised and worked well.

The prospect is very appealing. I thoroughly enjoyed my six weeks with EY and I would strongly consider a graduate job offer with the firm. Future employment prospects are very attractive and the opportunity to be offered a graduate job at the end of the internship is quite high according to statistics.
The Culture
Yes, we went for after work drinks on a couple of days every week with the interns from Advisory (around 15 in total). We organised these drinks ourselves as the SIP programme did not organise social events during the internship but just at the beginning and end. The social scene was quite good but it would have been nice to meet people from the other service lines more.
Very expensive. Doing the internship in London, the cost of living is obviously the highest of EY locations in the UK. Socialising around the office was very expensive but the salary is adjusted so you are earning slightly more than regional offices. There are also bars not too far from the office that offer affordable socializing opportunities and also many graduate events that interns can attend.
