The Role
I really enjoyed my internship, I was based on many different clients during my time here alongside being able to shadow an Executive Director and sit in on many client meetings. In addition to that, there were multiple opportunities for learning through the EY Leads website alongside having weekly webinars on various topics.
I did feel valued by my colleagues and felt like the work that I was being given did play an important role in the audit. They were all happy to take out time to explain the work to me in-depth as well as being available to answer any questions I had about anything from the work I was set, to life on the graduate scheme.
The support that was given was great with all interns being set up with a buddy, an intern manager and a counsellor. Inductions took place in the first week so we got to know our way around the firm and meetings were held with the counsellor every two weeks to ensure that we had no issues and that we were progressing, with these individuals being available any time to answer questions.
For the majority of my internship, there were many days when I had enough work to get me through the day though there were some days when there was little work available. However, when this happened, we could just go on the EY Leads website and learn more about our service line so there was always something to do.
I was given as much responsibility as an intern could have been given in regards to the work that I was set. I was trusted to complete the work and could ask questions whenever I needed help. In addition to that, I was allowed to sit in on client meetings and were set tasks based on that in some cases.
The skills and training that I developed will help me considerably in the future. Although I do not do a degree that is directly related to my internship, the skills that I learned such as communication, organization, time-management, and team-work will help me in any career that I pursure. Also, the training received means that if I was to come back to EY, I would have a good grounding in audit.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office was very good with all colleagues being welcoming to the interns and encouraging us to ask questions whenever we wanted. In audit, the interns were mostly based at their client sites thus not a lot of time was spent in the main office and these smaller teams replicated the atmosphere in the office.
The internship was very well set up with their being an induction on the first day which allowed us to meet most of the interns on the programme. This also allowed us to gain an insight into how the internship would work and the rules. We also had an IT induction on the next day and regular meetings set up in advance to help us.
The company offered a lot in terms of personal training as we were all given a buddy, counsellor, and an intern manager, all of whom we could ask questions to. Additionally, we had 3 scheduled meetings with our counsellor during the internship where we would update on our progress. We could also take a variety of online courses that EY had to offer.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Future employment prospects within the organization are very good with the team highlighting that if we impressed on our internship, we would have a chance of getting a full-time offer. In addition to that, there are many opportunities for promotion within the firm which was a common theme when speaking to colleagues.
The Culture
The social scene was good with interns regularly arranging lunches and drinks after work. Given that we were spread out across London, some elsewhere, it was slightly harder to meet up though there was much interaction between the interns. A final event was also held on the last day of the internship.
The cost of living and socializing in London was high due to it being the city.
The nightlife in the area was good and there were many places to go out to after work.
There was a vast amount of opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work with there being numerous sports clubs that we could all take part in, In addition to that, some socials were held and we also had access to the EY Arts Club thus being able to visit some of these museums on offer.
