The Role
My placement was challenging, diverse and really enjoyable. There was hardly ever a shortage of things to do. Working in a challenging industry allowed me to solidify problem solving skills and develop great resilience and tenacity.
I worked with a great team of people. Everyone in my team truly cared about my development and made me feel a part of the team from day one. We had many socials during my placement and this allowed me to build friendships with my team members on a personal and professional level.
The support and guidance is great. I had regular meetings with my manager and we would go over my workload, projects I needed more support on and areas of interest I wanted to put more focus on. My managers was very keen and proactive in ensuring I got the most out of my placement. This included setting up extra development opportunities for me, such as attending a presentation skills workshop.
Working in a fast paced industry where competition is high, there was always something to do. I would say most days I was busy but manageable.
I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement. From managing the budget, managing external agencies to agreeing deals on behalf of the team.
I believe I have gained skills that will support me and give me an advantage in my future pursuits.

The Culture
There was a good social scene with the students as there was about 14 placement students based in the Bracknell office. We hung out on the weekends, went out for lunch during the week but also 3M facilities many opportunities to be with fellow placement students so you will get a good opportunities to form friendships.
The cost of living for me was relatively high as I moved from Nottingham to Earley and a bit of a shock. But this is down to me being used to things like rent being a bit cheaper in the Midlands.
Nightlife is Bracknell is non existent. Most of us placement students lived in areas closer to Reading city. Transport to work was affordable and reliable enough to be able to do this. Nightlife in Reading is okay, but you can always go out in London too.
3M have a sports and social club so they actively produce you with opportunities to meet people outside of the professional work setting. There are football, netball and touch rugby teams. There is also volunteering opportunities with 3M. For example, going to help revamp local primary schools or care homes.
