The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed the placement with mace this year. It has been challenging but rewarding throughout.
I have been made to feel a valued part of our project team, working alongside other assistant managers all the way up to senior members of the company.
I was able to speak to my manager at any time to gain guidance and advice which I made the most of where necessary. On occasions I was left asking for direction from senior members of staff however and did not receive this.
The job role of a construction manager is extremely fast paced meaning I am always busy. I have occasionally considered myself to be too busy and becoming snowed under.
I was given responsibility for packages and work areas from early in my placement year.
I believe that this year's experience will be extremely valuable on my return to university. I now have a much better understanding of construction methods, sequences and management roles.
The Company
Having got on very well with the project team the atmosphere was always very good.
Mace provided an induction to the company which was compulsory as well as offering many more courses which I was able to sign up to. In a placement year there was no pressure to complete any training however I did sign up to those which would aid my development. Future placement employees should ensure that they make the most of the courses available.
