    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Very much. I've met any incredible people, made friends, learned many useful office skills and saw what my technical/academic skills are capable of in real life. I have found it very motivating to continue my degree with twice as much effort next September

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Very valued, People will use my groundwork to build their work and were very grateful to have me on the team. I had real responsability and important work that other people needed.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • A lot. I've had extensive training and multiple check-in meetings to monitor my progress. Any aditional tutorials or courses, I could just ask for

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was slightly too busy but it turned out ok. I thought my workload was a bit much but my manager assured me it had been planned that way to get me out of my confort zone (I had worked with the same company before). Furthermore, he probably knew already, some of the projects fell through and I ended up with a balanced workload

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Quite a lot. While none of my work was very time sensitive, all of it was needed, so if I didn't do it, someone else had to. I knew the tasks were necessary to support the team and I'd be setting everyone back a couple of months if I failed

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Definitely skills for life. I have learned many neat tricks on things I thought I had under control, like Excel or image editing, and worked on some personal development skills as well: things like running a meeting or handling feedback or approaching a busy specialist for help, definitely skills I'll need in my future

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was very relaxed and calm, maybe even a little bit too quiet for my personal liking (I work better with background noise, so I listened to some "coffeeshop soundtracks" instead). Everyone was very welcoming, kind and helpful but kept mostly to themselves.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Through no fault of my direct manager, some strange policies were in place at the time, even contradictory ones, which made the office side of work very difficult. Things like email setup or passwords and permission forms were out of sync with the internship dates, like the company didn't expect us to arrive this soon. With regards to my actual work, things had been set up seamlessly, so I could start right away, at least on paper

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Quite a bit, I've had extensive training in many varied subjects, both technical skills and things that I would need for the future

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • It's still too soon to say, as they will only make offers to come back a couple months from now, but it looks quite promising, so we'll just wait and see what they offer

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, there were many different groups of interns with shared interests from sports to just staying at home for tea. We planned lots of weekend fun like small trips or outings and even a couple birthdays

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The rent was very very high, and while prices are slightly higher than I'm used to, it's normal for the region, and the salary was adequately in line with this. I didn't have money to burn, but I never had to think about whether I can afford something, as long as it was not extravagant

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Very good, I guess. I would be the wrong person to ask as I don't go out at night much, but other people seemed ot enjoy it. I went a couple of times and there were plenty of places to pick from, relatively cheap and with student offers and promotions and so on

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • You could not do everything if you tried. There are a million clubs, friends groups, excursions, from a gardening club to tennis tournaments to spanish lessons you just had to pick something you liked. It was also a great oportunity to network and chat to people you wouldn't otherwise have "access" to.

    5/5
