    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the Placement mainly due to the real insight is allows you to gain as an intern, I had no prior knowledge of how banks were run internally and their structure. This internship showed me what it would be like every day here at LBG and just how rewarding it can be to work here.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued and really enjoyed meeting each new colleague. We weren't given the most responsibility but this is to be expected as an intern. I was however given full ownership of 2 project which allowed me to show my independent working skills and also improve my communication skills with other colleagues

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support system at LBG was great. You are given 2 line managers one for your day to day tasks and another who looks after your meeting and tours and also your general well being ( if you're happy etc.) You are never forced or pushed into anything and all decisions are made by you. I had no issues while at LBG

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was generally quite busy, fitting in work around calls and meetings.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given full ownership of 2 projects from start to finish and was also tasked with creating MI for a set of managers. In addition I also carried out live testing on Bank letters

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I developed massively over the 10 weeks, the valuable skilled I learnt was how an Agile team is meant to work and what methodologies to employ.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Often very quiet as many colleagues work from home, everyone was always friendly and welcoming though and always open to have a quick chat. I was sat with quite a few senior colleagues and due to this a lot of them were often very busy. Despite this they would always be happy to chat in between calls and everyone was generally motivated and driven.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The meeting and overviews provided were great, I was taken on 2 tours of data centres and sent on an Agile and Scrum training day. The Agile day gave me a great insight into just what methodologies are out there and how beneficial they can be when applied to the right projects with willing colleagues.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm invested heavily, giving us personal training and also allowing me to make mistakes and learn from these which I believe is invaluable. I feel like a great deal was invested into us, a lot more than the permanent colleagues. This was encouraging as it seems like they want us to progress to become future leaders of the bank

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would love to join LBG. My main aim to obtain a place on the Emerging Leaders Programme at LBG as I feel like it would give me a great start to my career and more importantly I feel like it will give me a great insight into 3 different job roles to allow me to find where I fit in best at the organisation

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The Social scene was great as we were all of a similar age. 19-22. This meant that we all had similar interests and there was 40 of us all living in the same accommodation. Everyone was very friendly and willing to make an effort with one another. Overall it had a great social aspect.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • They housed us for the 10 weeks, only expenses were daily travel and lunch. The train was about 8 pounds a day but fortunately I used to car share with 4 other interns. Lunch on average was around 4 pounds so you do need to add these in when calculating your budget for each week.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • In Leeds there were 40 of us interns, we went out regularly and it was really enjoyable. We often went to bars in the evening, followed by clubs. Often we would also go out and play football. I know other interns joined clubs and gyms together. The nights out were generally quite reasonably priced too

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Many of the interns joined the same gym and often did activities such as playing football, some went to other clubs such as salsa/ rock climbing. Overall I think the activities available were more organised by us as interns and LBG didn't really get involved but Leeds had plenty for us to keep ourselves busy
