The Role
The internship offered me a great variety of experience, being on a range of clients, competing work which was useful and undertaking shadowing days which allowed me to see the range of work and opportunities within EY .
Everyone who I met was friendly, welcoming and willing to give time to spend with us interns. Everyone was happy to coach me and talk me through the work I was completing.
My buddy and councilor were very welcoming and willing to answer any questions I had! They were able to provide me with opportunities to help me extent my knowledge while here at EY.
Fairly busy, depending on the client there was either a lot or little work. On average there was enough work but with Summer being a quiet period this was to be expected.
I was given responsibility to complete workbooks independently and sign-off on work. This made me feel responsible and gave me confidence to complete more work within EY.
I know that the skills I have learnt at EY will help carry me through my final year regarding organization, discipline and teamwork.
The Company
The office atmosphere was very welcoming and friendly. Being in a smaller office allowed you to make connections quickly and extend your knowledge about the brand. The office was modern and an openplan workspace allowed for a great mingling between the colleagues. The atmosphere was open, relaxed and friendly. The social events organsied by the office brought people together to allow for an even more connected office.
The internship was very well organized. Clients were pre-arranged and events and office days well set up also. I always knew what work I was meant to be completing and where I was meant to be each week which made the process a lot less stressful. When going to client sites, the manager always ensured that everyone was able to reach the site (by trains or lifts) which allowed for a well organized and smooth time within EY.
The seniors and managers on the clients were willing to invest time into you and help to understand the work you were completing. They made sure you understood fully how you were helping to complete the audit and how the work we were completing was important and part of the bigger picture. They invested time well and everyone was willing to help coach us and understand how the work we were completing was important and relevant.
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
The future job employment prospects within EY are huge. The career progression is clearly laid out from associate, senior, manager, director to partner with often clearly laid-out timescales for career promotion. There are opportunities to do secondments to different service areas if one wished to move areas within the company and also for future travel opportunities to different and global EY offices.
The Culture
The other interns were lovely and it was fabulous to get to know them. We went out for dinner and had days in the office together which allowed us to get to know eachother extremely well. Working on a group presentation together allowed us to really bond and work together within a team which allowed us to play to eachothers strengths and get to compete the presentation well.
The cost of living in Southampton is relatively low and allowed us to enjoy the city.
The nightlife in Southampton is diverse and allowed us to explore the whole city. The office social events allowed us to get to know the area very well and try out a range of clubs and bars in the area. The nightlife is relatively cheap which allowed for a range of nights out.
EY has a netball and football team along with EY foundation which offer charity events to get involved with.
