The Role
An amazing experience with all the support given by my colleagues as well as individuals outside my primary division on tips to succeed in this firm. With the initial training week helping me to build my technical knowledge, I was also able to enhance my interpersonal skills through the many networking opportunities that myself and the other interns were invited to. Additionally, the interns are treated very well here at MUFG, having a free 3 course meal and I was invited to Go Karting with my team!
I was asked to complete tasks by various colleagues across the different departments in my division that made a genuine difference to the team. As an intern, to take on such responsibility at such an entry level position goes to show how MUFG values each and every single individual working for the firm.
Throughout my internship I am receiving support from colleagues as well as my line managers, on tips to progress in my career whether this means staying with MUFG or not. Any questions that I may have with regards to the work I am doing or concerns I am having with the internship, I am able to discuss them with my managers as well as my Buddy.
This usually varies day to day, where some days there is so much to do whereas on other days there is very little to do.
The tasks I have been set with has really added value to the team, making their lives even easier. This type of work continues to motivate because it is work that I found interesting but also very satisfying as I know I am making a difference.
One of the more important skills I have developed during my internship is my ability to network with individuals whom I have never met. This is a skill that will not only help you in the working world or at university, but almost in all aspects of your life. How I have been able to develop my networking skills is through all the opportunities HR has set up for the interns to speak with both junior and senior members of the firm, as well as all the training that has been invested in to the interns to refine both our technical skills but also our soft skills.
The Company
A balance of not being too quiet nor too loud. I am easily able to have discussions with colleagues to discuss work or personal matters, thus establishing profound rapports with my team members.
Very well organised! HR has done an amazing job in setting up so many opportunities to help us interns to continue to progress throughout our internship. This includes: classroom training sessions, personal effectiveness training sessions, networking opportunities, social events and etc.
MUFG has massively invested in the interns, which is something I am hugely grateful for.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
As MUFG is a small firm with a very flat organisation structure, the progression up the corporate title is amazing, and thus, very motivating to all members in the firm.
The Culture
With the interns being treated to an intern dinner which MUFG paid for, and other social events we have been invited to such as a BBQ, myself and the other interns have been able to form very close friendships.
MUFG's office is based in Liverpool Street/Moorgate, which can be expensive but as they have a subsidised canteen this can be very helpful.
There are plenty of bars within a 5 minute walk from the office, and a few nightclubs in Shoreditch which is not too far.
I attended a team CSR and will soon go on to a CSR day with all the interns. Additionally, MUFG had a day of Abseiling where employees of the firm can take part in, an initiative aimed to helping raise money for charity.
