The Role
I enjoyed the work I was given during my time at EY- I felt I was given real value work and felt I was making a real impact at the firm. All members of the team right up to partner level got me involved and made me feel welcome. I was involved in a wide variety of work with different people which made the internship really enjoyable.
While I was there, the newest grads were away at ICAS in study leave and a lot of people were on holiday. This meant people did have a lot of work and so were really grateful to have someone around to pick up the extra. People were always appreciative and expressed their thanks for the jobs i completed. I really did feel valued by the whole team
My counsellor was great in meeting up with me and checking in with me which was great. My buddy was very busy and was less able to make time for more formal catch ups but was great for going to get help with little things like setting up IT, where to get stationary etc. Every one who gave me work was fantastic in going over things with me and showing me things. That was really great.
At the start of my internship I was relatively quiet before people got to know me and I had access to all IT systems. But i had been given a project to get on with so wasnt doing nothing. As time went on, I got better at asking for work and people got used to me being around the office, I was given a lot more work and was more involved with things. I never felt overwhelmed with work and the team were great at checking in to make sure
This was one of the biggest surprises of my internship. I was given real value-adding work which boosted my confidence. From working on a new product and researching potential clients for it to going out ato clients and leading talks on new legislation- all the work I did was important and valuable. I was given more responsibility than I expected which was great!
Everything I learned will help me when I go back to uni. I learned about real life applications of the theory I have already learned. We also had workshops on new laws and rules which will mean I'll be a step ahead at uni and can take this knowledge to a grad job. Not only this, but even getting a feel for the office and work environment will help my studies. It was a great experience and gave me valuable skills
The Company
Ths atmosphere was friendly but I would say there was less talking than I expected. Noone has an office so people have to be respectful incase someone is on a call. This is good as it means you can get on with work while in the office space. But all my colleagues were great and everyone was so fun! So at lunchtimes and after work or at social events we all had a great time together- but this is mostly outwith the office so that people can work in peace
This was great. Although you would probably expect this as they are such an experienced, global organization. i did have the odd issue with IT access but it was minimal and everything was set up prior to my arrival so I could get on with work straight away. Everyone in the office was used to having interns around so they were ready and able to help. I was given all ths equipment I could ppossibly need and the support networks were all in place
This was another great area. EY really made the effort to introduce me to clients, give me great training in new laws and systems as well as the standard training. This made me feel like I was there to stay and that the company were really interested in keeping me around. This made me more eager to work hard and prove that their investment in me was justified. Everyone made an effort to get to know me too which added to this.

I havent received an official offer from EY yet but they have said a reply either way should be given in a few weeks. My counsellor, the partner and the tean were all really positive and said they were sure I'd be back. I asked for a deferral which i thought could be an issue but they were all understanding. Career progression is good at EY which is encouraging. Their family leave and flexi benefits are really good too which makes their jobs more appealing. And they have some of the best woman in management/ promotion stats of any big 4
The Culture
The interns in my office were all really close even across service lines. I was nervous about being the only intern in my service line but this wasn't an issue! We became great friends. It was great to have others in the office and going forward to have friends also in the industry to chat to. The office itself also has a great social scene which was great to be a part of. And the team have invited us to events even after we've finished which is really nice
I already had a flat in Glagsow for uni so this wasnt an additional cost for me. Rent in the city can be found relatively cheaply in certain areas- even within walking distance of the office . Cost of living is no higher than UK average and socialising can be done on a budget. Travel is also quite cheap and easy to use to and from the office.
Glasgow has an amazing nightlife- for sure! It is such a good city to live in. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. There is a diverse range of things to do and places to go. You can have a great night out no matter where in the city you go. There is always live music, comedy and entertainment on somewhere and lots of pubs and clubs to go to
There were lots of team activities on. There is a football league that the office plays in against other firms. there are lots of tean lunches and social events celebrtaing different networks eg EY Unity or the womens network. There are also team away days a few times a year where everyone gets involved. There are donut days once a month where everyone dresses down and has donuts. There qere also endless opportunities to volunteer to fundraise for the EY foundation.
