    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my 6 weeks at EY and from listening to other interns experiences I can say that I am in no way an anomaly. I had the ability to work with some fantastic people whilst completing meaningful work. I feel that I was trained adequately and was given work which was hard but not so hard as to leave me feeling overwhelmed. Therefore for me, the internship was a huge success and I was extremely sad when it ended.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The best thing for me about working at EY has been the fantastic and diverse group of people that I was able to work with I got on extremely well with all of my colleagues, including those that I worked with directly and those which I only interacted with once or twice. Everyone was extremely welcoming and helpful and I would class the vast majority of the people I interacted with as friends.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had regular supervisor meetings whilst on my internship (once every 2 weeks) and was constantly in contact with my manager / senior manager and senior associates. This enabled me to always have the ability to ask for further work and to get assistance when stuck. I was also able to learn a lot about their own careers and get advice for my own.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was fairly busy on a daily basis, with my typical day being 09:00-18:00 including a 1 hour lunch break. I was able to get all of my work done during this time and always had the evenings and weekends free to whatever I fancied.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Quite a lot! I had to talk to clients and take on important tasks which made me feel like I was playing an integral part in the team.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I developed a lot of transferrable skills whilst working at EY. I improved my business writing and communication skills as well as my time management and organizational skills which will benefit me when I go back to university as well as in any future employment that I undertake. I improved my understanding of the business world (and the financial sector in particular) which will definitely serve me well in my future employment.
