The Role
I really enjoyed getting to know and working with the people on my team and in the office. I was really thrown in at the deep end on a lot of things and have definitely learned a lot very quickly.
I have been given a lot of real client work to do and I feel my colleagues have challenged me with a lot of the work I was given. We get along well and I really feel like part of the team rather than just a temporary intern.
My supervisors were always there and willing to help me if I had any questions and I was never made to feel like any question I had was a daft question.
Some days I had a lot to do and was kept busy all day or even stayed late but there were rare days when I was sitting around with very little to do, particularly on days when I was unassigned
A lot of the work I was doing I took responsibility for myself but ultimately it was all looked over by a junior or senior associate before it went any further
I definitely learned a lot very quickly. I picked up some useful excel skills and learned a lot about the audit process which I can bring into my future career. Most importantly, I learned a lot about day-to-day life in audit and reaffirmed my desire to work here after graduation.
The Company
Fairly relaxed with general chat whilst also maintaining a good, hard-working environment
The introductory talks laid a good framework for what we were going to be doing on the internship, I felt the meetings with our counsellors helped provide a structure in achieving what we wanted from the internship and we were thrown into client work which helped us to gain a clear feel for what life on the job would be like.
I was well watched over by seniors and by my team and the company spent a great deal of time ensuring we were well informed and comfortable with what we were going to be doing. Furthermore, I asked to see what it was like working in a different service line and they were very accommodating, allowing me a full day working in the alternative service line, shadowing a senior.
I would be very happy to come back to EY after graduating.
The Culture
I met up a few times after work with my fellow placement students however a lot of the social scene about the office revolved around casual men's football games which women were not invited to and there was no alternative for women
Leeds isn't expensive depending on where you go so we were able to meet up socially on a good few occasions but there isn't really anything you can do during the day for free
There are lots of bars in Leeds so you're never stuck for choice of where to go
We were invited to join sports teams and networks organized by the company
