The Role
Everyone was extremely pleasant and good at their jobs, they all took time to answer any questions I had.
They were great but I was always worried I was dragging them down because I was slow at my work and had to ask lots of questions.
It was very good, I felt my buddy would get irritated if I asked a lot of questions though which is fair enough.
I had to actively seek out work to keep busy.
I was working in a smaller office so I think I got more responsibility than an intern in a bigger office due to a lack of staff.
My excel general Microsoft suite skills have vastly improved and they will carry on into the future. I didn't have any client contact and I never sent emails to anyone other than the team so I don't feel I have improved my professional skills. I also had the chance to do a presentation and research into companies which I can see being useful skills when I return to university.
The Company
A weird mix of relaxed and stressed, everyone is friendly and pleasant though.
I feel it was relatively well organised, the main issue was the lack of work but I just think that was due to me interning during the quite period of the year and not any fault in planning.
There were a lot of WBL and Webinars, only a few were useful in all reality, the biggest issue I have faced with EY is its outsourced IT which in 6 weeks couldn't sort out all the softwareI needed to do my job which meant I missed out on experiencing parts of what a graduate would do.
Very, its a great company and it has a solid reputation. Its graduate programme seems gruelling but it produces solid CAs.
The Culture
I was the only inter in my service line, I spent time with the interns in other departments though and we went out together during the internship. I think life is much more social as a grad. Everyone here seems to only really hang out with their own year group or level within the firm.
The city I live in is expensive to rent in but I was staying with my family so it didn't affect me. The price of going out and socialising or shopping is the same as everywhere else though.
