The Role
It was a very enjoyable experience where I got to learn about audit, the procedures involved and life during work and outside of it of an auditor.
My colleagues were all very humble, friendly and helpful. I felt a valuable member of the team as I was given actual meaningful work to do and I could seek my colleagues' guidance on a matter whenever I required.
I was provided a network of people who were there to help and support me. These included my buddy, the EY summer internship team, the internship coordinator at the Cambridge office([This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions]) and most importantly, my counsellor, [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions]. Besides that, all the managers and seniors at the jobs I did took very good care of me and were very approachable.
I was not given as much work as I expected to be given. This was perhaps because by the time I joined my teams, there were already well into the execution stage of the audit and there was not much to do which suited my skill set or level of understanding. On an average day, I got to the office or the client site between 8:30 and 9am and left by 6:30pm
I was given actual meaningful work to do which contributed towards the completion of the audit. The work was assigned to me by the senior or the manager on the job. The difficulty level was basic or medium as this was the first time I was working on such a job.
I study Economics at university so this placement was not related to my degree. But this internship did give me a chance to improve my interpersonal skills and made me realize that I work well in a team environment
The Company
Relaxed and friendly with regular socials with team members and the wider office
In terms of work allocation and support network, the internship was very well organized. But sometimes, the teams did not have work to assign to the interns so that was something which could be looked into and improved.
The firm invested heavily in me. Even though I was an intern, I was still paid a very competitive salary. There were lunch and learn sessions every Wednesday and regular communication from the Summer Internship Programme team and my counsellor to ensure my well-being.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
I have completed my 6-weeks internship and from the feedback I have received from my senior colleagues, I feel that there is a good chance that I will be working with EY after graduating from university.
The Culture
There were seven interns in the Cambridge office and all of us were good friends and stayed in regular touch. We went for drinks occasionally and punting once. They were very good company.
I did not live or socialize in the area I worked in.
I did not follow the Nightlife culture in the area I worked.
There were regular football and cricket sessions which were a lot of fun. Apart from that, there were regular family quizzes and plenty of other activities to get involved in.
