The Role
It is a very enjoyable experience. The help is extensive and you really feel like you are part of the team right from the very beginning. The socials are a good way of talking and getting to know other interns and managers while the training really helps with the understanding of the business.
At the beginning, due to the learning curve involved in Tech I didn't feel like I was adding much value to the team. However I am a month and a half in and have been put on my own individual project and feel like I am contributing and valued to the team.
I was given a lot of guidance as to how I can approach my placement. However I had to make my own placement decisions as to what I wanted out of it. All the team though were very nice and very happy to help as to steer me in the right direction in case I was unsure of anything.
At the beginning not that busy at all , but there was a lot of reading to do around the business and its functions, However, although not pressurising work, it was constant work deeper into the internship that really did supplement my degree and introduced me to a lot of different technologies.
I was given a lot of responsibility, from the very beginning I was told that my placement was my responsibility and if I wanted something I would have to make it happen. My manager guided me as to how I can achieve what I wanted to achieve from the internship but it all came down to my ambitions and my appetite to achieve
Very much so. All the technologies I have been introduced to are all very commonly used. I have learnt a variety of different languages and that will be very applicable in my third year at university. I feel like once I have finished this placement I will have learnt many valuable skills that will look great for future employment.
The Company
I am based in the surrey offices with occasional trips to the Cannon Street office in London. The atmosphere in the surrey office was very chill you can wear what you want (within reason) and everyone is very friendly. It is open space so great for collaborative working and the campus is very nice and clean with lots of parking. The London offices aren't as casual (that is to be expected) but still very friendly compared to other investment institutions overall a very nice place to work.
It was a very well organised internship. Especially because they had to bounce between three different offices with interns scattered all over the place. Help was provided when needed and information about the internship was simple and easy to retrieve. Any concerns were dealt with straight away. You always knew where you needed to be and what you were doing. Manager communication was frequent.
The company invested in me heavily, providing training sessions frequently. Inviting senior staff members to give talks to the interns about what it means to work at Fidelity International. There was a lot of opportunities to do job-specific training within Technology across a lot of different departments.

The Culture
Quite cheap in Surrey, there is a subsidised canteen which served a variety of different foods and that was really nice. I could drive into work which saved me a lot of money rather than having to go into central every day and purchase a travel card. Overall the social isn't as good but cost of living wasn't expensive for me personally.
It's Surrey so there was not really a nightlife, however I did have the option of working Cannon Street in days that I wanted to go out at night and the Nightlife in central London pretty much speaks for itself. So overall not great but overall there were work around which was good.
