The Role
I enjoyed my internship at EY greatly. The first week of induction programmes were great in order to get to know the other summer interns and also have informal discussions with senior stakeholders within the business in a relaxed setting. Working on different clients was interesting and kept the work varied ensuring that you never felt bored and were always learning new things.
I felt extremely valued by my colleagues and an important member of the team. From the first day I was given challenging work normally assigned to permanent employees and was expected to work hard as they were under deadlines to meet. To this extent, I fell like the internship was a valuable experience as I was given 'proper' work.
The support structure at EY was fantastic- both from senior members and also from a dedicated councilor and buddy who were always available to answer any questions that I may have had. Whilst working at my client sites I was also supported and guided by individual members of the team who were happy to give up their time for me.
On a daily basis I was extremely busy and always had plenty of work to do. Whenever I ran out of work the other members of the team were happy to give me more to do and I never felt bored or lacked direction. During the internship I worked standard working hours and was not expected to stay late or put in 'facetime' in order to try and impress senior employees.
During the internship the interns were given a lot of responsibility and were challenged to complete the work quickly and to a good standard in the same way as permanent employees. I felt like a valued member of the team and other people were relying on me to produce my work in a timely and effective manner in order to make a contribution to the team effort.
During the internship I feel like my skills on excel developed hugely as much of the job is focused on using excel. My abilities and conficence talking to clients and also other senior stakeholders within the business also improved and I feel like these skills will be extremely useful in my later career. Overall I feel like I am finishing the internship with a lot more skills than when I started.
The Company
As we were mainly out at client sites during the internship the atmosphere amongst teams was always different. Although the working atmosphere was obviously different based on the number in the team and personality of these members, I always enjoyed the working environment. On the days in the office I greatly enjoyed the relaxed and hands off working environment in the office which stimulated effective work.
The work placement was extremely well organized, both in the social and induction events for the interns and also the client bookings which were organized weeks in advance and enabled interns to make travel arrangements. The structure of the work was always clearly defined and the teams out at client sites were always aware of out presence and had planned work for us to do.
I am hopeful of securing future employment with the company oncompletion of the internship.
