The Role
I really enjoyed my placement year - I learnt a lot and met some fantastic people. It was invaluable experience to me, as I study buying and merchandising at University. The placement was split into two; merchandising 6 months, buying 6 months, so this was a great year to work for both parts of the business.
Especially with my merchandising team - they made me feel so welcome, and I felt even closer to them when I was in buying, as I still sat with them and asked them for advice/support.
Merchandising - given a lot of support and guidance, was very structured and I always knew what to get on with. I felt the buying part of the placement was a lot less structured, and it wasn't organised as well - I didn't know what the expectations were, and I felt I had little guidance and support.
Merchandising - very busy and always had jobs to do. Buying - sometimes busy with lots of projects set by the buyers, however when I didn't have any projects, I had to set myself things to do and go out on comp shops, store visits etc.
A lot of responsibility in merchandising - able to decide and influence decisions. Buying - not a lot of responsibility - set projects, but no deadlines or structure.
I have developed a lot of skills this year, including communication, teamwork and independent self-motivated work, which will really help in my degree and beyond as these are transferable skills. A lot of what I have learnt this year has tied into my uni studies, so it was overall an invaluable experience for me.
The Company
Friendly, welcoming, relaxed, informal, conversational.
First half of the placement very well organised - training for 9 weeks with a timetable. Second half was not very well organised - minimal structure or guidance.
So many emotional intelligence sessions and personal development to build on communication and people skills which was fantastic.

I haven't yet found out about a job offer, however the employment prospects are positive and hopeful.
The Culture
Yes it was great - myself and the other placements were very close and socialised a lot, as well as work colleagues.
Cost of living - quite expensive, however not central London prices.
Good nightlife; few bars and shops and restaurants
I went to the gym a lot, as well as many others from work! There were always pub nights and even an outdoor cinema in Watford!
