About You
Everyday was meticulously planned without being regimented and was full of exciting and informative activities. We were treated exceptionally well throughout the week with various fun socials and good entertainment.
Every member of staff at the firm was willing to talk to us and on many occasions would make the first step in trying to communicate with us. Before, during and after the scheme I was always aware that I could ask someone if I was unsure about something.
People were always on hand to help us and we were kept well informed about proceddings throughout the scheme. The talks we had were highly insightful and contained information that was consistently useful throughout the week.
Having to speak to so many people and think about problems quickly and effictively has increased my confidence when networking and talking to people with whom I have never met. The analysis used throughout the scheme has also been useful when tackling problems during my degree. Despite this. the week was more about learning about the firm and putting learned skills into practice, rather than overtly trying to cultivate new ones.
The Company
Everyday was planned to the hour and ran very smoothly. There were no periods of waiting around and all the talks were relevant, there weren't any that seemed to be time fillers.
There was a friendly and convivial atmosphere throughout the scheme. Students and staff were all outgoing and willing to converse. This contributed to a relaxed but focused atmosphere generally.
The firm was always willing to help us improve and develop skills, during and before the scheme.
We met various people at different levels in the firm throughout the scheme who all gave their insights on what day to day life was like as a full time staff member. Thus I feel that I gained a very large idea of what the firm was like to work at, within the time constraints of a week.
Meeting such a diverse section of lawyers meant that I got a fairly good perception of what values and attitudes were shared by all employees and the firm generally.
The content we were shown was usually very candid and neutral, I never felt that firm advertising was being forced upon me. It was thus fairly easy to get facts and information about the firm, as well as establishing the culture of the firm.
Everything Else
More than adequately. I would have done the scheme on expenses only and still have felt that it was really good experience.
There were structured networking events every day, on top of the already large amount of oppurtunities to meet people from the firm.
Every social event was really fun and well planned, I enjoyed that lawyers came on them along with students.
Yes. Lawyers often spoke about what they do outside formal work and pointed us in the right direction to read the full list of things one can do.
For anyone interested in commercial law, or even someone who is unsure but wants clarification, this scheme was highly insightful and useful in establishing what a career in law looks like.
