The Role
I have highly enjoyed my internship at EY, it has given me a great insight into the oil and gas industry whilst also gaining valuable experience working in a business environment. I was given a variety of tasks to do with varying levels of responsibility so has been a great introduction into working as an auditor.
Although I was only an intern, everyone I worked with was extremely friendly and welcoming and always made an effort to chat with me and take in interest in what I had to say. I never felt like I was being looked down on by other staff which made it a lot easier settling into the internship.
When we started we were given a counsellor and two buddies who were always available to help with any issues and our counsellor was constantly keeping up with us to make sure we were progressing well, completing goals and enjoying our time at EY. All staff I worked with we were extremely helpful and would gladly take time out of their work to come and assist and teach the interns.
How busy I was on a daily basis varied as it depended on how busy my other colleagues were and how much work there was to do for the client. The most boring points were when there wasn't any work for me to do and I would have to complete online courses and tests while waiting to be given a task.
As I was an intern with no real previous experience and only there for a short period of time, it was hard to get fully engaged with all the clients and be given high levels of responsibility but the tasks I were given were never to basic that I didn't feel involved on the jobs I worked on.
As I am studying accounting and finance at university almost all the work has been relevant to my degree so should help as I go into my final year. I am also planning on becoming a qualified CA so the hope is to be offered a graduate job that will set me on track to complete this qualification.
The Company
The EY office I was in is open plan so this made for an open environment and allowed easy communication between all levels of management - from intern all the way up to partner. Everyone is extremely welcoming and easy going, you can tell culture is of utmost importance at EY.
The internship started with two and a half days of inductions - getting to know the company, your local office and an IT induction. Everyone was excited to start after that and be sent out to clients to get started on proper work. I was assigned to three different clients which was a great opportunity to gain exposure to different companies and work with different teams.
We were given a reasonable amount of training and development. Most of this was learnt from the work we were given and working amongst others, however there were also other personal development sessions. We had a webinar once a week covering different aspects of our personal development such as business writing and personal brand.

If I am offered a grad job here, I would strongly consider it as an option. The firm has a good ethos and will be a fantastic place to train. I feel that while my experience as an intern could have been better I still would like to work here as I like the values of the company and the work that I have done.
The Culture
Colleagues yes but in terms of placement students this was limited. We are all on different teams and in and out of the office at different times. I get the impression you would be a lot closer with your year group once you joined as a grad due to college etc... but on the whole the social aspect has been good. Plenty of work drinks and socials.
Just like most places there are cheap and expensive places to go, just isn't a huge variety
Could be better
Not really
