The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement year at Travelport. Everyone was incredibly welcoming and supportive throughout my year, which made my experience even more enjoyable. I have been given so many great opportunities and been involved in a variety of projects from across the business.
From day one I felt like a valued member of the team, my suggestions were taken seriously by others and my work made a real contribution to the business. My colleagues were always willing to support my development and involve me in their work.
My manager was very supportive and encouraging throughout the year, we had regular one-to-one meetings to discuss how I was getting on, if I needed any additional support and any projects that I may wish to explore. I was also assigned a mentor who also supported my development.
Once I had settled into the role tasks that previously took a long time became routine and much easier, giving me more time to work on other projects. There is never a dull day in the office as responsibilities can change on a daily basis, some weeks it can be very busy and you have to learn to manage your time effectively.
I was given lots of responsibility during my placement, which I thoroughly enjoyed as it reinforced that my colleagues took my ideas and decisions seriously. Sometimes I would be working independently and on other occasions I would be working in a team environment.
My placement at Travelport has given me an amazing insight into the company and taught me some very valuable skills and life lessons. The training and workshops the placement team provide help to develop your skills and knowledge further. I am definitely more prepared to go back for my final year at university.
The Company
Everyone is very friendly and welcoming from day one, the office is relaxed and a positive place to work. The office is always good fun when there are birthdays and celebrations going on as well.
The work placement at Travelport is organised very well and continues to improve each year. The placement team are extremely dedicated to supporting your development and encouraging you to get the most out of your placement. They are always there if you have any questions and will keep regular contact with you throughout the year.
The workshops that the placement team provides are very helpful, there is also training provided on improving your CV and Linked In page. My team were also very willing to support my development and I was given training by them so that I could get involved with more tasks and further develop my knowledge.

I have loved working for the company and would love to return once I graduate. There is currently not a defined graduate programme however some interns do return once they graduate.
The Culture
The social scene amongst the interns has been great, we socialise both inside and outside of work. We were also encouraged to be involved with charity fundraising so as a team we took part in Tough Mudder, which brought us all together as was great fun!
It really depends on where you are going. There are plenty of pubs nearby that are reasonably priced but going into London can be expensive. Windsor is a good place to socialise as it has something for everyone.
I lived in Uxbridge during placement which had some good pubs/bars and one club that was busier during term time. Slough isn't far from London either which has an amazing nightlife. Windsor is also not far and has plenty of pubs/bars/clubs.
There were lots of opportunities to get involved with charity fundraising, which we often did as a group both inside and outside of work. Some departments may go out for team lunches or drinks after work as well.
