The Role
It was a really fun internship with a lot crammed into 6 weeks. I found that the work was slightly repetitive but that's understandable given that I have extremely limited knowledge about tax.
The team I was in was very inclusive and brought us interns to a pub quiz as well as to team lunches.
The management team were very supportive. From all levels, from the buddies they gave us to managers and partners. Everyone in the team seemed to take an interest in us.
There was variety. At teams we were extremely busy and under a bit of pressure to get work done. At other times, there was much less to do and we could work on other projects, like working towards the Corporate Responsibility Day and also preparing for the presentation we had to give at presentation training at Bradenham Manor (which was really fun!).
There was some responsibility, we had to write letters to clients, talk to HMRC on the phone and the other intern in my department got to meet a client.
The presentation skills course was extremely helpful and gave some really good tips in how to deliver a good presentation. It was good to work in a team and the Corporate Social Responsibility Day was good fun and also helped me to multi-task and learn to prioritise.
The Company
The section would have quiet spells but every now and then there would be great chat and banter thrown in. It really depends on the department you were interning in.
There was work organised for us from day one but there were also many events for us to get to know our buddies and other interns including a roller disco, lunch and learn sessions and a farewell party. We also went to Grant Thornton's manor to do a presentation training course which was really informative.
The team and HR made it easy to have a good time while also learning.

Company Parties/Events
Got a job and have accepted it, so will start working with GT in September 2012.
The Culture
A lot of the interns were willing to go for drinks. The team also went out a fair amount but as I live in London anyway, I had other events going on.
London's never cheap. But there are a couple of decent pubs around the office.
There are a few good pubs but the clubs are further into town. And the work evening events (roller disco and leaving party) were no where near the office.
Unless you include drinking there weren't that many activities outside work.
