The Role
There were so many different elements of it, that inevitably I loved some of it and didn't enjoy other parts of it - but certainly a great experience in teaching me what I like and dislike.
Everyone on site was so willing to give up time to come and help us out on our project and people were so interested in what we were doing. One of the best parts of the internship.
It was open-ended guidance - we could go and find help if we needed it, but things weren't handed to you on a plate.
Busy, but not exhausted all of the time. It tended to be just over the average 9 til 5.
Lots of responsibility. This was another of the best parts of the internship. We were working with such senior people and they were expecting a lot of us all. It was such an amazing opportunity to really take control and ownership of your project.
They didn't really help with my degree, but certainly they will help immensely with my career in the future. The most valuable skills I learnt were how to interact with people and the team.
The Company
It was great all being in the same open-plan office. All 16 of us got on well and bonded - we had a lot of fun in the office and the accommodation, but there was also time for serious business!
It was well organised, but felt that some events that were set up for us (like presentations and Expo's), although brilliant opportunities, were a little slap-dash set-up. It didn't detract from my experience though.
Very much so - they were great at telling us about how they thought we were getting on, helping with our research into Graduate careers and helping us achieve our goals.

I really enjoyed the way that they promoted the company to us, and I definitely wished to work there again (although at a different site). They've offered me a job, just waiting to hear back from them.
The Culture
It was left up to us, but we did go to the pub in the evenings together etc. It was great that we were living in the same place so we could all just spontaneously decide to go out together. We also went on various lunch trips to the ClubHouse on site etc.
At IBM itself, the price of food was very good. In Winchester, things were a little more expensive, but we ate out plenty of times - because our accommodation was paid for, we had plenty of spending money!
We didn't venture to the clubs at all, but I'm told they're alright. The pubs are absolutely brilliant - so many gorgeous typical English pubs. Bars are good too.
Again, it was rather left up to us, but there were plenty of opportunities to do sports and activities on site and also at the University accommodation that we were staying at.
