The Role
Thoroughly enjoyed the placement. Would 100% recommend to those thinking about applying. It is a great place to gain exposure across various teams with the various training sessions available at the same time as working on real-time projects that allow you to make an active contribution to the work your team is doing.
From the offset you are given work that actively contributes to the work the team is doing. A very friendly and welcoming environment at M&G means that I fit into the team straight away. With weekly 1-1 meetings your work is valued and it is great to have these 1-1 to then be able to improve on your work going forward.
The support system at M&G is great. HR are very supportive but as are the team I have been working on. As I mentioned previously, the 1-1 sessions are for interns to also get the most out of the summer internship by stating what we would like to be working on/get more exposure too. In general the majority of the employees at M&G are really supportive and very willing to grab a coffee to speak about their experiences/job roles which then allowed me to get a wider understanding of the business and support my decision in wanting to work in the FS industry.
Work load varied depending on upcoming deadlines however generally I was very busy with lots of varying tasks to do to gain full exposure of what my team did.
Throughout the internship the amount of responsibility you get increases and by the end of the internship I was working on projects alone and contacting other members of the business for the data and help I required.
The training received about the asset management industry as a whole will provide extremely useful in the future when pursuing a career in the financial services. The commercial internship is a great platform for expanding on soft skills such as creativity, presentation, team work and data management that will undoubtedly be useful going forward.
The Company
The atmosphere is very rare for a FS firm in the city. Everyone is very welcoming, there is a great work-life balance. Everyone, like mentioned before, is willing to sit down and talk to you about their role and therefore contributes to the overall welcoming and supportive atmosphere.
Very well organised. Weekly meetings with the other interns and members of the business to allow us to get exposure to a wide range of teams. Weekly socials were organised as well as often meetings with our HR representative and 1-1 meetings with managers.
A large investment into the interns seen through the various development sessions and exposure to members of the business.

Working from home
I would definitely now love to be considered for the graduate scheme but from what I have seen throughout the business whatever role you begin at M&G there is room to grow and move around internally. Having spoken to many apprentices, their experience has been positive whereby they have moved from opportunity to opportunity and have been pushed to grow for and within the company.
The Culture
Yes. Lots of organised socials by HR but everyone on the internship was lovely and therefore we organised our own socials too.
Cost of living in London is higher than other UK cities, at the same time I think working in the city compensates for this.
Good.
Yes - pioneering women's events, social activities, sporting days, sponsored runs.
