The Role
Over the past 4 months that I have been working at MSD, I have thoroughly enjoyed the new challenges that were presented to me on a regular basis. It has already given me an insight as to what I would like to pursue in the future and cleared up misconceptions I had whilst being at university as to what I was expecting of working life.
Everyone within the MSD Cramlington network are very friendly and are always willing to help. The support I have received from my colleagues has already proved invaluable.
A lot of my work is independent however whenever help is required, it is very easily accessible in the form of your supervisor/coworkers.
I think they have hit the right balance between being very busy but not too much to the extent you feel overwhelmed.
I do very much enjoy the level of responsibility and trust they place in all placement students. The work is very much appreciated and rewarded. Usually most the work I have encountered were in the form of Kaizens and continuous improvement projects.
The skills I have picked up in the short amount of time are already very eye opening and will definitely assist me in future life. Tools revolving around people/change management are core to most areas of life and a large spectrum of roles. I also underwent yellow belt training which allowed me to gain access to some new problem solving tools which I now use on a regular basis.
The Company
The office is very open and honest which makes it very easy to suggest any potential ideas I might have.
As the first intern for my department, I think there are various areas that could be improved but management have already made it clear that they would like to hear all my feedback around the role at the end of the year.
As mentioned earlier, I underwent yellow belt training which was very beneficial.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Healthcare from home
I hope to further my development at MSD, its a very progressive company where there are lots of new projects on a daily basis.
The Culture
All interns are very much in contact with each other and organise regular nights out.
Newcastle is a great city to socialise, there is lots to see and do and very student friendly
The nightlife in Newcastle is one of the best in the UK with regular student nights running on each weekday.
This is an area that I might be neglecting due to other commitments i.e going gym
