    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • 10 - I thoroughly enjoyed my time here at the HSBC internship. I was able to see all aspects of the business and managed to network with some inspirational people. Deciding to apply for the HSBC internship scheme was one of the best decisions I made as now I have a grounding on the skills I need for my future career.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • 9 - In my internship, I felt of value to both of my placement managers. They provided me with tasks and projects which would have been beneficial for them even when I finish the internship. Being able to provide an extra pair of hands and a fresh pair of eyes on internship is helpful for both managers as they can then gain my opinion as an outsider.

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • 10 - Throughout my placements, I was given support every step of the way. From being able to talk to my line managers to being able to talk to fellow interns. Help was always given if it was asked. Having an internship graduate buddy as well was a massive help as they were able to provide advice having gone through a similar process themselves.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • 9 - I was kept relatively busy throughout both of my placements at HSBC. If I had completed certain tasks, I could then either ask my line manager for something else or if I was in branch then I was able to jump on to the floor and shadow CSOs. If I wasn’t doing this, then it would be doing projects with the other interns from Grow to charity events.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • 9 - I was given a fair amount of responsibility throughout my internship at HSBC. From being set tasks and projects in which you were completely responsible for to time managing meetings and conference calls. Also to organising charity events and other projects with the interns which were done on our own.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • 10 - All the skills that I have gained throughout my internship at HSBC will defiantly be taken forward in to my degree and in my future careers. From being able to efficiently time manage, organise, networking and communicate effectively will be the main skills I will take forward to assist me.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • 8 - Most of the time, the atmosphere in the office and in branch was uplifting and lively. However, as it is the summer, a lot of people especially in head office were on holiday. So some days the atmosphere was less so. But there were always people around if you needed help.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • 10 - All the events and projects ran both by the internship team and by the line managers were well organised and were effective. From having 2 induction events to socials, the internship events were always something the interns looked forward too. Line managers were well prepared in tasks for us to do before we arrived.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • 10 - HSBC fully invested in the interns including myself. They ensured that we had to complete mandatory training and attend a Global Induction event held in London. If we hadn't completed this then we wouldn't have been able to carry on with the internship. This just goes to show that HSBC is dedicated to investing in their staff.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • 10 - HSBC is very appealing in my future prospects of employment. They have so much to offer and there is so much opportunity to be able to branch out and do anything you set your mind too. The world is your oyster with HSBC as long as you work hard and are willing to put the time in.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • 10 - Social side of the internship was good. The interns that I worked closely with had a Whatapps groups and regular meetings and calls in which we were able to bond through. On national intern events such as the volunteering day, socials are always held after to let your hair down.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • 4 - Being in London, the cost of living and traveling is very expensive especially over 2 months. The internship programme team did their best in organising placements which were close to our living locations but apart from this HSBC wouldn't subside work travel apart from if it was a national event.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 10 - London, its big, it has a lot of clubs and bars, it has vast areas of hospitality I which they were only a tube ride away. Although everything was very expensive, if you wanted to go on a night out, it was very easy too. Ubers are a life saver.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • 10 - Plenty. HSBC has a lot of charity events in which is it apart of. From the stairway to hell challenge to charity bake sales, HSBC had plenty to do in order to keep you busy outside of the work place. There is also traveling opportunities in which staff can be apart of.
