The Role
I was working in the Security & Technology team, a specialism that was new to me, but I had a very supportive team and I really enjoyed my internship with them.
The atmosphere was very friendly and encouraging which I really enjoyed. It was a very small team in the London office so everyone was always chatty and welcoming.
I had weekly review meetings with my line manager to go through what I was enjoying, what I found challenging and what I would like to do more of, which I thought was a very good way of mentoring and I managed to get a lot out of my internship. My line manager was very open to my suggestions and would actively try to make my experience as best as possible. I was very lucky.
Some days were busier than others. I was working on technology two days a week and I always had lots to do when I was with them. Security I did for two days a week too, and due to the very specialist nature of that discipline, sometimes work was a little scarce. I was given a day of personal development too per week and this was the most challenging as it was a self motivated research project. But I was definitely kept busy most of the time.
I was given quite a lot of responsibility which I am very proud of. Due to the new nature of the discipline, I had a lot of learning to do, but this didn't stop me from getting responsibility which I really appreciated.
I learnt more about how a company is run and how projects are financed and delivered which is something I always wanted to learn about so I am pleased that they incorporated this into my internship experience. Similarly, I learnt to use simple mark-up tools and analysis programmes which will be useful in my studies.
The Company
Doing my internship in the summer meant that there were frequent summer BBQs and events happening which brought together the people and the company which I really enjoyed. This meant that the atmosphere was always fun, and the BH office in London is quite a young office so there it is very lively.
My team were very organised. At the beginning we made a clear plan together of what we wanted to get out of the internship from the company side and my side and we always had reviews to check up on this plan to make sure I made the most out of my experience.
All the interns were given training in revit and visual programming which I thought was very good for the company.

Working from home
I have heard from previous interns that they do often employ interns onto the graduate scheme afterwards.
The Culture
Yes, the Young Engineers Forum which is a society within the company for young engineers hosted a lot of events for interns and graduates.
Expensive - central London is an expensive place.
very good - the office is in Soho.
yes, being in London the world is definitely your oyster.
